You killed TransTech!

Recommended Posts

Most of those seem barely doable as toys and while I like some designs, some are just horrid like that one of Megatron, there is nothing recognizable left at all.

Okay, so I'm like three years behind here, but...

I just came across a bunch of TransTech concept art that I'd never seen before -- Blackarachnia, Silverbolt, Depthcharge, etc. Just looking at that stuff had me drooling like you wouldn't believe.

And then I remembered that TransTech -- as well as the continuation of the American TF continuity itself -- got AXED because of all the Beast Machines-hating GeeWun beyotches who in all likelihood scared Hasbro off of releasing another American-produced TF show. (Nevermind that Hasbro was already going back to "vehicular" Transformers with TransTech anyway!)

Which of course led to the OUTSOURCING of the Transformers and the super-fabulous dub of "CarRobots" known here as "G1 [er, sorry: 'Robots'] in Disguise". Oh sure, the show was goofy as hell and made no sense continuity-wise, but the squealing little fanboys didn't care because "ooh! it's just like G1 all over again!!" And now we have Armada and Energon, continuing the tradition of Japanese kiddie TF shows posing as American ones.

Nevermind what *could* have been if the GeeWun'ers hadn't been so obsessed with a (now) 20-year-old show. AARGH!!! BASTARDS!!!!

*whew*

Okay, I'm done. Time to take my medication. :redface Feel free to comment (or not) as you see fit. But let me just leave you with one picture, so you can at least begin to understand my pain (yes, this is Soundwave):

So basically, LM, what you're saying is that because I didn't like (and therefore didn't watch) Beast Wars or Beast Machines you didn't get TransTech?

I don't really agree with that reasoning, and here's why :

The 'Geewun Beeyotches' wouldn't have been watching Beast Wars OR Beast Machines would they?

I think it's more likely that Hasbro figured the audience for Transtech would have been too small to make any profit with the line.

Let's face it, kids grow up, and BM wasn't exactly the most kid-friendly of cartoons. So you have that strange situation where the fans are growing up and moving away from toys, but there's no next generation to take their place.

So Hasbro (as they did before at the end of G2) realized they had to do something different to get kids buying rthe toys again. The last time, they took a severe left turn into BW. This time, the did the 180 degree spin back to real-world vehicles by using the Car-robots line.

One thing I've noticed is that RID brought the G1 fans back from whatever they were doing during the beast era. They weren't screaming for anything, because they hadn't thought about TF's for years until they saw Prowl or Sideburn or fire truck Prime.

Wow, talk about teh Geiger-lookin' designs :eek They really should do this series as a movie or something.

cool stuff, especially the prime :drool

I don't see how anyone could make Energon, Armada, & RID after making a show as great Beast Wars.

I like those Trans Tech designs. Anything is better than this Energon garbage of a TV show.

I guess I’m alone in thinking these are horrendously fugly. But then, I can’t stand gimpy knuckledragging hunchbacked robots, call me boring. Admittedly the production version of Starscream was very cool and normal looking and apparently was only vaguely based on that concept art, so perhaps the final toys would’ve been far more appealing.

And as stated earlier, there’s a good number of G1 folks who didn’t invest in Beast Wars, period, so blaming us for the failure of Transtech is pointless considering we were already gone by that point. No, I’m not a G1 purist, I’ve happily bought a good portion of everything except G2, BW and BM.

I also wonder if any of you are the same people who complain how “anime the current TV series have been; these toys look more anime-mech influenced than anything else.

Bottom line is this still was primarily a kids’ toy. Maybe now TT would stand a chance as the small-run alternate adult-collector line like Binaltech, but I can’t see it having huge mainstream success.

does anyone have pics of this mystery fig?

It would Really be cool if they deside to use these designs for the up coming "Cybertron" line. I admit I wanted realistic updated car Transformers that have complex transformations but Transtech still seems like it would have been interesting. I would have loved to here what the story line was going to be with them having Optimus Prime and Cheetor in the same continuity.

Looking at their designs though, Alternators designs equally compensate for what we missed out on. Alternators are big and bulky just like those concept sketches.

I'm watching the Beast Wars DVD's right now and I can say without hesitation that it is the best Transformers cartoon hands down.

Don't get me wrong I loved/love G1, but BW is so much better as a show. Granted I love the G1 and Energon toys, but the shows are not nearly as good as BW.

I don't own any Beast Wars toys and don't plan on getting any either. The G1 show was cool for what it was. I just don't see how the Armada and Energon shows got made after Beast Wars. If they would have used Mainframe to do those shows there is no telling how awesome they could have been. Energon is an improvement over Armada, but it is basically an anime with CGI Transformers put on it.

I know a lot of G1 guys don't care anything for Beast Wars. Hey, I used to be a skeptic as well. I never liked or cared to like BW. But I heard nothing but good about Beast Wars so I gave it a shot. I was more than impressed, I was blown away. It is such a dark tale, plus it has G1 tie-ins.

I would advise any G1 fan to at least give it a chance. I promise if you open your mind just a little, you will like it.
