Wildman is overrated...

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else think Wildman is seriously ruining Dreamwave's streak of having fantastic pinup style art in the books? I never cared for them snatching up old Marvel artists and writers, when there are MUCH MORE TALENTED guys they can pick up right now....Look at this panel from WWI#6 that BWTF.com posted...Ya know, if that is what they call "professional" lineart, then every fan artist on this board must be ready for the big-time....It's sad to see the art go to this, especially on such a big title like WWI....

Man, what the hell is the deal with soundwave? He looks Depthcharge without the fins..

A little off topic, but am I the only one that want's to see John Romita Jrs' take on the Transformers? I think it would be quite interesting.

Personally, I think some of the old Marvel gang were way better than what Dreamwave has to offer. Sure, the likes of Delbo or Springer couldn't draw Transformers for their lives, but neither can Pat Lee, who is unfortunately regarded the example other Dreamwave people have to follow.

I prefer an Andy Wildman or Geoff Senior (my personal favorite TF artist EVER) over the Dreamwave pinups in bright candy colors. Senior didn't draw the most beautiful Transformers, but at least he understands a lot about storytelling.

If there's one thing I don't like about Dreamwave, it's the computer coloring. I don't mind computer coloring per se, but the way Dreamwave does it, it distracts from the art itself. And it makes Pat Lee's robots look even more inflated than they already are.

In this day, it would be utterly ridiculous to rely on non-computer based coloring...that's just stupid.

And Pat Lee can draw Transformers quite well..he just isn't great at progressive storytelling...I'm sure he'd never claim to be, either.

"Here, take this! I'll beat you up in my fanart.."

How about this?

Not sure what your point is, but that looks pretty awful too....There were plenty of comics with good art during that same time, like Superman and most of DC...I don't see why it's okay that Transformers can have crapty art, and be protected under the name of being the Transformers...

I didn't say computer coloring is bad per se. Tom Smith (JLA/Avengers) does very decent computer coloring. But the Dreamwave colors often tend to look like cheap bright candy colors.

You mean like Bumblebee's winter boots?

Also, those... things on skinny Prime's chest are "ewww". Suffice to say, his vehicle mode is robot-mode accurate. :redface

Or Megatron's toy cannon?

Why should he? He's the boss at Dreamwave, therefore he is teh rulXor. :roll
