WIP Pin-up Tatoo

Recommended Posts

It's supposed to be my soon to be wife, 37 days. I'm not great at portraits but so far everyone can tell.

post-2314-1231537886_thumb.jpg

Do you want me to help with the portrait/face part of this?

To be honest, the style is rather retro - the face itself resembles the caricatures of celebrities that would pop up from time to time in old Warner Brothers cartoons. This is NOT a bad thing, just a stylistic note.

Most of the proportions are excellent with the exception of the right arm - it needs to be brought back some, where it's originating from makes that shoulder seem pushed forward beyond human flexibility.

The left hand looks weak compared to the nice lines of the rest of the sketch - for one, I'd splay the fingers ever so slightly more, and the thumb should be straightened out a bit away from the rest of the hand. This will make any perspective look better, as well as make the hand pose look more natural.

And don't think I'm just trying to cut it down, it's already better than 2/3 of what I see surfing DeviantArt, it's just that this image has a TREMENDOUS potential. Overall, it's a good effort, but with some further work could be really great.

Nice start. Nice legs. ;)

You have a photo to compare it to?

Where will the tatoo go? If its on a leg or arm, I would recommend looking at a more vertical design. Like this one:

Looks kinda like WWII Nosecone Art.

What I might recommend is getting the design as close as you can/feel comfortable with, then check with several shops and their artists and they can help you tighten it up a whole lot(not to say you can't do your own work, but sometimes a different perspective can really help). If you want the face to look like your bride to be, try taking several photos with you if you do what I mentioned and that will bring it even further along and help the artist give you exactly what you are looking for. Also, if you have some images of the design that you are borrowing/being inspired by, take them with you, every little bit helps, and believe me, a nice tat is wonderful, a so so tat is annoying as hell.

Good luck!

I think I would tone down the smile slightly..

At the moment I keep hearing Jack Nicholson saying "Why so Serious?".. :tfrofl

Sory couldn't resist, :tfemo

I cant make up my mind just something seems Manic about her expression. Its a great image and you can tell allot of work has gone into it.
