Removing stickers completely for replacement

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I've finally gotten a complete (Well, except for the gun clip) Jetfire. But some of the parts have bad stickers, others have none. What's the best way to strip off stickers for replacement, without damaging the paint or other applied paints? And is there really any way to get rid of yellowing due to sunlight exposure short of repainting?

One thing I used to do was use lighter fluid to remove stickers, it seems to break up the adhesive without damaging the plastic(peel the old sticker, then apply on areas that are left/sticky). I would recommend doing a slight test on a non visible area of the jet first with the fluid and plastic someplace in case there is a reaction due to the age of the plastic.

As for undoing the yellowing, I have not one clue myself but would be interested if there is a way to reverse it. (looking to get one of the older jetfires pretty soon)

try Goo-Gone. But test it first on a small, unnoticable spot.

Yellowing on plastic cannot be reversed I'm sorry to say. It is a reaction to sunlight that is basically coloured the actual plastic. This can often leave these parts brittle too, so be carefull on those parts

I too wondered if any products like Oxy-clean or RIT color-remover would work on plastic...

My success with RIT dye has piqued some curiosity. Anyone else have info ?

Well, I have an extra one. If you can pop the arm back into the slot, it'll be in great shape. Well, other than some mis-applied stickers. And I've got some extra armor pieces to go with it.

As for Goo Gone, I have some, will try that this weekend and see. Then I just have to get the replacement stickers. $25 I don't have right now...

You wanting to part with the spare or just mentioning it? I'm interested in it if you are wanting to part with it.

I am going to part with it. I was going to toss it up on eBay as soon as I get some pictures of it.

Cool, I'll keep an eye for it.

for removing stickers i use warm soapy water (with a mild soap - "Dove" is the UK one i use) & i use a soft-headed toothbrush to clean out the details in the mould of the plastic too - then use a soft towel with a cool hairdryer to dry it out completely

yellowing? i got nothing sorry dude
