Don Murphy movie news!

Recommended Posts

From Don's message board.

Some thoughts after returning from holiday and catching up on reading every post.

1- Core characters- when I indicated that there would have to be a core team of Autos and Decepticons it was just common sense. The audience needs to care for the characters. Of course we will need a human way in- but when you think about it, the X-MEN films featured Wolverine FIRST, then Professor X and Magneto and then Cyclops and Jean and then.... petering out. I never said that there would be only 7 on either side. Just seven that are fully prominent and fleshed out. And hell, it might be 6 or 8.

2- Delays on news- we've spent the last 6 weeks since the announcemnt negotiating Paramount into the Dreamworks deal. Boring stuff but it needed to be done. Now we will have a writer IMMEDIATELY and more news will follow.

3- Simon Furman has contacted me directly offering to consult. What do you fans think of this?

4- Drew "Moriarty" McWeeney at Ain't it Old News has officially been declared an enemy of Hollywood by the Steering Committee. He seems to lack taste, morals, purpose, talent and a belt. What he lacks in respect he makes up for in blind arrogance. Friends of this site will send him unsolicted opinions about his dearth of knowledge and his girth of flesh when they have a minute. Thanks in advance.

Remember- we are listening to you. Kinda like Big Brother and Dick Cheney, but you know, more benign.

has anyone thought that maybe the movie will just be this new alternators storyline? I mean I know it supposed to be G1 and technically they are G1. Doesnt it take a while to create new toys, and therefor hasbro will either take new Japanize Transformer items and repackage them.. or will they just finally make an All American line of Transformers... not likely... It just seems the new series "cybertron" is really going to be the basis for the movie... and the alternators + a motion picture sounds like a good way to get Car Manufactures on board with the alternators line...?

anyone have any ideas?

this feels kinda like a "Hasbro" update.. alot of words but not much being said, but at least this keeps us in "the know" that the wheels are still turning for the movie. I think that Simon Furman will help tremendously, i only hope that they listen to him... and hey more trasnformers than we thought :thumb

Cybertron is supposed to be a continuation of the Armada/Energon storyline.

The movie isn't scheduled until Summer of 2006, there is still plenty of time to make up new designs. I have a feeling that they will be rather Alternator-ish in execution - although, I think that most of the characters will probably be available at a smaller deluxe price point as well.

My feeling is that there will be a entirely new cartoon based on the movie designs/characters that will air in late 2006/2007.

NO F'N FURMAN.

Consultant yes, but nothing more than that.

well I think that will be all he is, otherwise he wouldnt have mentioned they would have a writer soon. Furman will be good for setting a continuity and that is about it. he wont be good for much else, he is no screenwriter after all.

(I hope I did not offend the Furman is God Delegation)

Nemesis Part II? ;)

But yeah...

:pfx

Furman's stories as of late are too often only mediocre and a pale rehash of his old Marvel stuff. But "consultant" would be fine with me. He sure knows his stuff, he just shouldn't be in charge.

Frontpaged and Creditied :thumb

Yeah :pfx on Furman being just a consultant, anything else :tfpuke

Maybe he could be the movie's hairdresser.

Furman contacted Don Murphy and expressed interest in being a Consultant.

Definition of Consultant:

con·sul·tant ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kn-sltnt) n.

One who gives expert or professional advice.

If Simon wanted to write it I'm sure he'd have said so. He won't be writing it, he'll be a Consultant and that is all he'll do. I don't think there will be anything he'll do other than that.
