TF:TM Hot Rod lucky or divine intervention?

Recommended Posts

I was watching the movie the other day (for the 836,784 time) and something occured to me. All throughout the movie, Hot Rod seems to make all the right decisions, is in all the right places, including getting grabbed by megs so Prime could die because if prime hadn't died "an autobot would not have risen from thier ranks". Sorry tangent, but it seemed that everything went his way.

Now the question i pose to you is this, was it fate, divine intervention (Primus?) or merely luck? Now unlike some issues, ie; why autobots died so easily, this can not be a case of simple "convenience for hasbor" *cough* Lord Madhammer *cough*

Then after the movie it seemed that what ever force was working for him, left him... so what do you think?

As far as the Autobots dying more easily, I've always went back to their original purpose...the ranks of the Decepticons were filled w/ bots created as warriors, and the Autobots were from more peaceful occupations.

thanks for answering a question from another thread SkyBonus :tfevil

Egh, something like that I would have to go with Primus, divine intervention, then after the movie was over Primus realized that he made a punk commander and chief of the autobots and his only hope for survival, and then decided to pull his endorsment and was waiting for him to screw up.

Also why is it that in beast wars transformers can actually hit a target and blow it up, but in all the other continuities they cant seem to hit the broad side of a barn with a milk cow?

Well, since you're practically begging me to respond.... ;)

Go read Joseph Campbell's "The Hero With a Thousand Faces" sometime. It's typical stuff in any hero story, though it was done with a bit less subtlety in TF:TM. I mean, you've got Prime telling Ultra Magnus, the MINUTE after he passed the Matrix on to him, "oh don't worry -- someone else will come along and save the day." And then my favorite exchange in the whole movie, from a Velveeta perspective:

Ultra Magnus: "Maybe the Matrix can stop [unicron]."

Hot Rod: "You're right! It can!"

Kup: "What do you know about it, lad?"

Hot Rod: "I've just got this feeling."

who me? *giggle*

I would say he had the good luck that Primus oversaw how big a baby HotRod was.

I was all part of Hotrod's evil plan to take over the Autobots. He and Starscream had an off camara bet going on over who could become leader. Afterwards, just like all teenagers, Hotrod has a short attention span and is no longer interested in being leader. Been there, got the Matrix, what's next.

Probably just luck.

Why didn't Ultramagnus take on the name prime after he got the Matrix and became leader. I thought it was a law or something.
