As much as the adult fandom hates to admit it, Armada was a HUGE success for Hasbro.

i think that has more to do with it being the first line in a long time that offered consumers what they remembered as being transformers rather than a bunch of animals

... there were what... 7 orignal molds in that line and the rest repaints and left over bm stock?

 

don't get me wrong, RID had some of my favorite molds and got me into collecting but it was really only half of a product line.

Beast Wars Dinobot = PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!! :argh

I think Armada's success was due to the cartoon being in the vein of what was popular at the time (Poke-mation) and the toys being both subtle G1 homages (for collectors) and easy/sturdy to play with (for the kids). Plus the Mini-Cons cashed in on the Pokemon inspired "gotta catch 'em all" mentality that kids were used to. As a result kids would buy toys they would normally have no interest in just for the Mini-Con.

Like it or love it, Armada was the epitome of brilliant marketing.

 

Oh, and Universe 25th Ann. Smokescreen gives off a Playskoolish vibe. I'm kinda disappointed.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind having an improved version of the Armada figure.

 

I blame the PS2 game.
