Pre-movie or post-movie characters?

G1 had no character development...Everyone come across like a goofy idiot til the point that you didn't care if they win or lose in the war, you just want them to shut up and stop going on weird fantasy adventures...

When I look at G1, I see a buncha fat idiots who can't get over the fact that G1 is over, and that the new series are superior to it in every way possible.  Every single stinking character in Superlink has been given time to develop...even the poor Omnicons have their place. They even take time to develop the Decepticons, which is something G1 never did. in G1, they were always sarcastic guys throwing out one liners, who retreated at the end of every episode. I'm not gonna sit here and discuss this anymore because it's a waste of time, but in any case, G1 is still dead as a doornail...the reissues are shelf warmers, and poor toys, at that...I wouldn't be surprised if Skids is the last G1 reissue that Hasbro makes. And with that, I say good riddance to overpriced basics with poor stickers and no posability...

Here's what I don't get. This is a show supposedly aimed at 5-10 year-olds right? When was the last time you heard a 6 year-old talking about the inner turmoil that Tidal Wave was going through? Or how Snowcat's new form was fitting due to the progression of his character?

I don't know about you guys, but I've NEVER heard that.

Most of the time, unless they are glaring errors, kids don't give a damn about inconsistencies. They want action and funny. Which the G1 series gave. Does Energon give that?

Now, as an adult, I notice the flaws and inconsistencies more. But you know what? I still don't like the new shows. Wanna know why?

I'm not an anime fan. There are certain characteristics of anime that just plain bug the smurf out of me. From the way the villains are depicted to the action sequences to the annoying "comic relief".

Now, I know someone is going to tell me I'm wrong for not enjoying anime, especially TF anime, but that's my opinion. Has nothing to do with nostalgia for childhood or BS like that.

Oh, and by the way, newer and flashier doesn't necessarily mean better. As with all entertaiment, it's not how slick the production is, it's how enjoyable it is to watch. And that all depends on your preferences.

On that part we agree. But in a way this isn't about that. It's kind of more about letting people have opinions of their own. Believe it or not, you don't rule the planet. Last time I checked everyone was allowed to like whatever they want to like. If you don't like what they like then tough crap. Live with it.

The whole "hey, it's for kids" argument just doesn't fly with me. I've heard it used to justify just about every crappy thing ever, from Jar-Jar Binks to... well, to G1. Anyone who has watched any Pixar movie, the Spy Kids movies, or any of the classic Disney films (etc. etc.) knows better than to claim that if something is targeted for kids, that adults will think it's stupid. Heck, I love Beast Wars just as much as my six-year-old son does. You know what the secret is? It's called "good writing."

OK, OK, I've got something that would appease fans of all Transformers generations....

:tfpuke G1 Transformers on Adult Swim! Think what they've done with Sealab and Harvey Birdman! :tflaugh

Whaddya think?

You said it. Right on the money.

Yikes. I'm afraid to think of how they would handle the whole Optimus / Elita-1 thing. :wtf

I've seen most of those LM, (except the Spy Kids movies. There is no force on this planet that could make me sit through those) and good writing doesn't necessarily mean that both kids and adults will enjoy it. It all depends on who it will appeal to. Let's face it, a kid and an adult can watch the same show and see it differently from each other. The adult is looking at the storyline, character development and pacing, while the kid is looking at the action, the adventure, and the funny.

For example, Six Feet Under is a show that is heralded as well written. Would kids like it? Not really.

Would most adults like Energon (OR Superlink)? Probably not.

Does that mean that both shows are poorly written?

PS. I never said that things targeted for kids were stupid. What I said was that kids watch shows on a different level than adults do.

Back on topic, Pre-movie for me.

I think you're missing out with the Spy Kids movies. But that's just my opinion -- I'm a huge Rodriguez fan.

BTW I'm not talking about "grown-up" shows. All I mean is that well-written kids' shows tend to appeal to adults as well as children.

:tflaugh1 The theme song can be a parody of "The Beverly Hillbillies"

They came from outer space a long time ago,

Fell to Planet Earth and got there own show.

They change into cars and planes and things -

Robots in disguise... with human feelings.

(Hormones that is.... ready to roll out)
