Pre-movie or post-movie characters?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone think that the G1 Transformers series may have lasted longer if the writers, Hasbro or whoever made the decision, decided not to kill off the popular season 1 and season 2 characters that everyone liked?

Which do you think were better in your opinion?

Season 1&2 characters or season 3/4?

i say the premovie, they were well developed and had the capability of fighting well and improvisation

I think they should have used the the S1 & 2 characters longer and gradually introduced the newer characters. I would liked to have seen Ironhide and Brawn fighting alongside Ultra Magnus and Kup. There were so many untapped stories there, but the movie wouldn't allow that. Now we can only imagine.

That's a hard question to answer. Everything changed so radically with TF:TM. I don't think you can just pin it on one thing, like the characters, even though they were, as a rule, weaker than the earlier ones.

Think of everything that changed after the movie. There was no more use of transformation as a "disguise," the stories mostly did NOT take place on Earth or involve many humans, there was a third "faction" in the Quintessons (who never amounted to anything BTW), the alt modes were these "futuristic" or "Cybertronian" vehicles that you would never have seen in real life, there was not a clear leader of either the Autobots or the Decepticons (thanks to Galvatron's instability and Rodimus' general puss-ness), and the main human character changed from a teenager to a kid.

I think the major problem post-TF:TM was a loss of motivation. Pre-TF:TM, there was this struggle between the Autobots and Decepticons -- the winner would regain Cybertron and the loser would be destroyed. This is called "dramatic tension" -- it keeps a story interesting. Post-TF:TM, the Autobots had reclaimed Cybertron and the Decepticons were hanging out on some crappy planet, so.... hadn't the Autobots won? There was no "struggle" anymore, and so you ended up with some of the bizarro-world story lines that you saw in Season 3.

If the writers had been smarter, they would have come up with a better way to keep the story going after TF:TM than "Five Faces of Darkness". I think that the kids would have adapted to the change if they had 1) established the characters and their motivation better, and 2) brought back Optimus Prime as a sort of Orson-like figure (as in, Mork and Mindy) that Rodimus could chat with via the Matrix.

Oh well.

:pfx they should have held off the movie for a bit so the other characters disapperance could be explained, and we could have actually seen the important things (control of cybertron) without just being told these things

What he said. Post-movie stories were weak. They even had some munky dude create Unicron. What a bunch of doo doo. Daniel & Wheelie have certain side effects which may include: vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, & death. :tdown

Right in the spot. Perhaps Dreamwave may change that situation in the ongoing G1 comic.

And toywise, I like more the post-movie toys.

Character wise? While Prime is my favorite character, pretty much Hot Rod/Rodimus, Ultra Magnus, Spring, Kup, and the rest of the post movie characters make up the rest of my top 10 list... so i'd say i was a fan of the post movie characters more....

I prefer before the movie characters.
