Frenzy/Rumble

Recommended Posts

Well, two lines down from where it says Rumble is red it also says Reflector is not to be used in the series...does that mean he wasn't really in the show and I'm remembering it wrong?

Hey, isn't that Bumblebee dancing around Cybertron at the end of "Rebirth?"

I've skimmed through the thread, and I don't know if anyone has admited to this stance yet:

As a kid it was all about he Toon for me. So RIB and stuff...

However, as I've gotten back into collecting, I'm more than happy to accept that Hasbro wants RIR.

And that's fine too. But I'm not trying to convince anyone one way or the other.

btw -

I think Movie Frenzy's eyes were blue to match his Stereo's LCD display....

hey some dude said this once....

but on the toys they seem to be red... the bastards

"stuff changes" is a pretty retarded argument if you're talking intent :tflaugh since the change could be intentional or unintentional, and the mere fact of it doesn't tell you which one it is

luvers to Hobbes of course

Yes...but there's a difference between a one scene inclusion of an out-dated character model by the animators and the constant use of Reflector as a character. No one is saying that any given episode of G1 isn't filled with errors, but there are some things that are intentional, regardless of what the Production Bible says.

I'm just saying that I don't think the production bible, with it's numerous differences from the final show, proves intent. I do think Hasbro/Takara's consistent use of Rumble as the red guy does prove intent.

Either way, I'll still always think of Rumble as blue because of the show. I don't care that it isn't "official", I recognize I'm wrong. Doesn't bother me too much.

Really?

Not to harp on you or anything, I'm just wondering how you come away with that conclusion.

I thought this was his conclusion....

EDIT - sorry quoted the wrong part of the post.

It just seems obvious it's an early version of the bible, and I think it's likely there was an updated one in existence at some point. Rumble might still be red in that version, too, I fully concede that, but I don't think you can use it as the final say on the intent of people writing a show 25 years ago when it omits a fairly regular character.

Of course, I suppose it's true that this bible is so updated it holds for all episodes after Reflector's last appearance, when Hasbro was no longer interested in promoting that toy...:schin

I take Hasbro and Takara's consistent reuse of the name Rumble as the red guy to be the real solid evidence of who is who...still doesn't change my gut reaction to picturing the blue guy when I hear "Rumble".

Oh I'm not at all trying to change your gut reaction (even if I could). I don't have an agenda. I was just wondering how you came to your conclusion. I used to watch the cartoon too. :)

What I would say about Reflector is that they clearly weren't sure how much they were going to market the character. He was never released in stores, and was only ever available via mail-away in 1987 (right?). And of course he pretty much dropped off the face of the earth -- well, the cartoon anyway -- after the first season. So that's how I would interpret that.

The production bible was for Hasbro and Sunbow, not those goofballs who animated the thing. Ever notice when the credits went from English to Japanese names?
