Happened across Prowl and Sunstreaker at the Harrisburg, PA Toys R US the other day. I posted a write-up and a couple pictures of both at http://yearwithout.blogspot.com, but basically I don't like Prowl and rather like Sunstreaker. I'm looking at these as toys first, and had more fun with Sunstreaker. I like the transformation, the little automorph gimmick, and generally how the toy feels. Prowl's head annoys the hell out of me, the unpainted missiles look cheap, and it is not fun to play with.

 

I should have Octane early next week to review.

That's disappointing. I wasn't planning on getting Prowl but I was planning on getting Silverstreak. Maybe I should just pass on both and hope that Alternity Convoy gets retooled.

 

Good to hear that Sunstreaker's pretty nice, though. Again, I'm planning on waiting for the redeco/retool on this, but I'll make sure to snatch it up when it's released.

The fact that you don't like the Classics Starscream mould invalidates everything else you have to say.

Like I said, my thoughts only. I'm sure you don't like one of my favorite toys as well, Agent Zero. I hope you love the toy if you need to validate your own ideas that you're so much better because you like a toy I don't.

 

I look at the toys as toys, how fun they are to play with at the moment. I don't care about the history, the homages, or if some little detail is a throwback to my childhood. All I ask for my toys is for them to be fun to play with in the moment. If a figure cannot stand up straight due to floppy joints, has terrible head articulation, or has a stupid gimmick, then I do not like it. On the flip side, so long as a toy (Transformers or otherwise) is fun to play with, I will like it. I don't watch the cartoons or read the comics, so I have little knowledge of it things are show accurate.

 

Here are some of my favorite toys in my office so people like Agent Zero can decide if my opinions are valid.

-Optimus Prime Movie Leader Class

well...I love classics starscream, but I can see why his mold would be unlikeable. And all those are pretty awesome I think. After all, this is a forum, and everyone's opinion is valid. =]

Flimsy toys are what really bother me. (RID/Beastwars)

 

Good reviews. The good/bad of the toy in nice short form. Also great high rez shots. :thumb

 

With animated being awesome I could probably survive not buying any of these but it probably won't stop me when they eventually start showing up.

 

I really like Sunstreaker's alt mode. Awesome for a deluxe sized toy. Shame about the crap Q/C around the windshield. Hope I can find one without thar problem.

 

Prowl I don't mind, but as many have pointed out very bland in both modes. I bet some silver paint hear and there would make a vast improvement. Speaking of doors popping off during transformation, G1 Prowl has the same problem so I guess it doesn't get much more G1 than that.

Thanks for the compliments on the pictures. I took a couple of each toy and stitched them together using panorama software. I'm trying to cobble together a seamless background for the next reviews.

 

Have to say, I rather like the Animated line based on what I've purchased. Starscream is fun, but I'm really digging the Voyager Optimus Prime. Soundwave is on the way, and that might be it for the Animated line for now for me. I try to limit myself to a couple characters for budgetary reasons.

Ach, they'll all be great! I'm STILL waiting for my Prowl, although design wise I can see where your gripe would be, and have been waiting for onl quite like him for way too long now. He will pretty much be the golden goose in my collection. ^_^

I'm gonna wait for the Henkei versions. Mmm... chrome fresh... :)

i'd have to agree with agentzero... and not only for that but also for having a movie figure listed in your favorites :tdown
