GI Joe Going PG-13 - Are Transformers Next?

Recommended Posts

I don't know what to think about this. Because I don't know Hasbro's concept of a "PG-13" or what audience they are aiming at. Though I would like to see less childish, though not too radical either, military drama with serious storyline. Something in the vein of Ghost In The Shell. But that is just my opinion and wishes.

the transition is much easier for g.i. joe because right now it's mostly supported by collectors JMO.

See, people seem to think that "PG-13/Transformers" means that random cursing, violence, and robo secks will be shoved into a TF story "just 'cause."

I admit that with the wrong group of yahoos writing it, it very well could turn into that.

What I think of when I think "Transformers/PG-13," however, I just imagine a generally darker tone. No robo secks, no cursing (as Blitz pointed out, there's no reason for TFers to use English curse words anyway), and no indiscriminate violence just for the hell of it.

To me "Transformers/PG-13" says "Transformers, done as G1 fanboys think they remember the G1 show"; that being a tale of galactic civil war.

PG-13 Transformers just has to have an epic feel to it, and a generally darker/more serious atmosphere. It doesn't need to have robo secks, random explosions and slaughters, and curse words, as have been the concerns expressed so far.

Just my two cents, but animate the IDW G1 reboot. Best version of the G1 story so far, IMO.

What you're describing is PG Transformers, along the lines of Batman: The Animated Series. Perfectly kid friendly, even with a darker tone than a TF franchise has previously received.

We've seen PG-13 Transformers. And everyone complained they couldn't take their kids because of the masturbation jokes.

Thank you, Batman: The Animated series is the perfect correlation I was looking for (man I love that cartoon).

Would that be Transformers PG though? I'm not sure. It seems like everything that was rated R when I was 10 or so is now rated PG-13. All though I honestly know very little about what makes something "PG" or "PG-13." It all kind of seems kind of random to me these days.

Ah, ok. So I guess I was describing Transformers PG. So if what I was describing (and secretly hopping will someday be produced :emo) amounts to TF/PG then I retract all previous comments :tfpwn

That said, I'm surprised that Animated hasn't gotten the PG-13 tag yet. After all Fist Full of Energon was clearly about Prowl and his drug abuse problems[/Hornet]

Say what you will, the scene served its purpose, and I wouldn't take it out :tflaugh

not always. it could also mean more realistic violence which i would LOVE to see. also, to parents batching about the movie, bay stated that it wasn't a kiddy movie, and the rating was clearly labled. they should have known what to expect. perhaps they should screen a film first before taking their kids to it. i'm still waiting on my damned r-rated director's cut.

also, what's wrong with making a tf toon for adults?

experience. i've seen kid after kid walk right by them to the other stuff. also the fact that the damned scalpers make it impossible for collectors to get them, let alone kids lol

How would it be different from a normal TF cartoon?

Characters getting torn apart?

Death?

i'd imagine it being much closer to the current comic series. more mature themes, more rutheless 'cons and battles etc...

EDIT

NO NEED FOR STUPID fargING KIDS! O_O

Well as Hobbes already pointed out, I would like to see the "Batman: The Animated Series" of Transformers cartoons. Though I've been told that would be more along the lines of a PG series rather then a PG-13 series.

B:TAS was AWESOME, now if they made something like that with Transformers, I'd watch it.
