How long will the classics line last?

Recommended Posts

I am really getting into the classics line.I missed out on the first series and am completeing that through ebay.

I like what they are trying to do, update new transformations and looks for G1 characters and bringing them up to date.

what worries me is that it will only last another 2 series and we will get crappy repaints and it will die like the alternators line did.

I am still hoping for new designs for the obvious G1 guys like Trailbreaker, Ironhide, ratchet, Inferno, grapple, smokescreen and the like.

So tell me am I crazy or do I have a reason to believe that this will end up being another line that never lives up to its potential?

That Hasbro named it "Universe" leads me to believe it's primary reason for existence is to sell repaints of old stuff - with a few new "Classics" molds to generate interest.

I think they'll dig up the Universe line whenever the "main" line has an unusual aesthetic. Since the next line coming out is Animated, which looks nothing like previous Transformers, the Universe line will be a convenient way to keep G1-ish figures on the shelves.

it'll probably go like alternators did. Every non-main TF line I can remember (alternators, universe, titanium, reissues) came out strong, stuttered, then died.

I hope it finds enough steam to churn out a couple more waves.

This is a far more accessible line than most.

BTW; anyone know the street dates for this upcoming one?

I don't think it'll go down exactly the same way... the Alternators came out in drips and drabs, with only 2-3 new molds produced in a good year. I'm pretty sure Hasbro's going to blow their wad on one or two waves of new Classics molds (maybe more) then that'll be the end of it. In other words, I expect them to come to a more sudden stop, not counting repaints.

it will go on as long as we demand it to, i personally want to see a new fort max, trypticon made in the line

it will go on as long as we demand it to,

just like alternators? ;)

it will last for a while because:

1. it has a better price point than alternators had. lower prices mean that mommy and daddy will be more likly to say yes when jr. is rolling in the aisle crying

2. no need to get licensing from car manufacturers.

3. being under the "universe" banner, they can call any decent homage a classic

it will go on as long as we demand it to, i personally want to see a new fort max, trypticon made in the line

I dream of most all of them being remade. Starting from the original line and moving through the majority of the post-movie characters.
