On topic... I generally use 70% alcohol... Does 90% get the job done with less streaking/rub marks on the plastic?

That it does. 'Foggs it. Works like a charm on the dirt though. As an American, I'm always baffled when people don't know what rubbing alcohol is. I never would have guessed that that's a regional term. (Anyone for a Band-Aid?) Yep it's Isopropyl Alcohol, alright. You should be able to find it at any discount store. Just be REAL careful around those wing symbols, or you'll be hoping that the Reprolabels look as good.

 

 

Actually tom you cant find it in any discount store. Im talking about this country mainly. Its just not as readily available over here for some retarded reason. I had to go to 5 stores before i found it and when i did eventually find it it wasn't at a discount store, pharmacy or a supermarket. It was in an electrics store like Radioshack.

 

Its so weird. Not only that but all they had was a huge 1 liter tin of the stuff which cost me a small fortune. The only other kind they had it in was smaller spray can form which was out of stock of course.

 

Now that you mention electronics shop and small spray can, what you have is actually what north americans would call contact cleaner. The big bottles here are identical to rubbing alcohol, but the small spray cans might have additional chemicals (usually a lubricant). Still, makes me wonder why its commonplace in pharmacies over here, but not in the UK? Is there a name brand antiseptic maybe, that's isapropanol?

 

Back to the topic of the thread, dip a cotton swab into it, if you want to clean a specific spot. Using a cotton ball works well if you're going over a large area and don't have any other paint apps you want to keep.

cheers for all the help guys, i've been using a combination of cotton buds (q tips for those across the big pond), and lint free cloth, worked a charm, also cleaned him up in a few more areas and painted the missle batteries metal, will be adding a little more detail to that small area. any other areas i might want to change the colour of?

Hey kid,why dont you do an actual custom instead of doggin everyone elses for one and again, I wasnt talking to you. Sonray is Sonray not Dumbass. No one can stand you cryin all the time and its funny how you dont do customs yet criticize everyone else's work. Do this, make one, put that time and effort and creativity in it, if you can manage it, do it for a few months or a year or so, then come and start giving tips and pointin out everyones mistakes. not a problem, i used to lurk here a bit, and have made the odd post, and i think im finally getting caught up with the custom feaver, at least for minor repaint mods, not going to be bashing any yet...

 

I think i almost like displaying SS most in alt mode, at the moment, on his flying stand. looks awesome.

It really does. I havent messed much with mine but its an awesome figure to have. I wanna take the weathering off and then again I don't. It's a hard choice. Good luck man.

I display mine in bot mode like all my other figs (with the exception of classic camaro bb and movie barricade which i display as if they are chasing each other :P).

 

He looks awesome in either mode though. Just a shame he's so small in bot mode. Its a good size but when compared to the other MP's he is a pygmy. Just be careful of the wing hinges mate, those are very delicate and often break.

I had to use paint remover to get the silver on the nosecone off. Be careful though. I just noticed that the area around the nose got a little discolored from the paint thinner. Rubbing alcohol's safe though. I got that all over him. If you can find it. What do you people use to sterilize things over there?
