i think they just didnt have the energy to fly , they used their spare time to hang out and to goof around . unlike the decepticons who took all the energy they could get , they were all business . that would be my guess on why optimus had to use sideswipes rocket pack to fly. when in the first few episodes he flew on his own .

I think the writers just decided to try and differentiate the autobots and the decepticons a little more by not allow the autobots to fly, which they clearly could have done in the first pilot episodes.

 

Plus that now allow the cons to be able to retreat when needs be. :thumb

i dont get how soundwave was like three storys tall and then hed transform and spike could put him in is pocket , now that one huge pocket.

I have been to many websites trying to explain this miracle in TF technology (Optimus' trailer disappearing, Megatron shrinking, Soundwave shrinking, etc.). Most say the mass is "teleported" to some dimension or something...

1. Why are the Autobots so cool? They can't even fly for the most part. Autobot cars kicking the tail of Decepticon jet planes? WTF?

The Autobots are "cool" because they are the cars we all know and love, which also turn into giant (10-20ft?) robots. nough said. And the flying thing, didn't that have something to do with the Decepticons being the "warrior" group of robots the Quintessons made them to be? While the Autobots were the "worker" class/group?

Grim Lock telling Prime to f off? Why are the Autobots so cool? Why is Megatron getting his tail kicked? Well the first answer is no one told the mighty leader of the Autobots to F off. Prime needed Sideswipe's jetpack because he needed the extra speed to catch the Decepticon space crusier. Which, if you think about it, had to be a hell of alot faster than Prime. The Decepticon for the most part transformed into jets. Their manuverablity in the sky was unmatched. Why would the Autobots fly all the time just to become sitting ducks.

 

The question I never here asked is, how could Astrotrain get big enough to carry the whole Decepticon army? Cosmos and Omega Supreme had this ability too. Also on the Kremzeek episode, Megatron rode to Autobot HQ inside of Thrust. On the Movie Galvatron hitched a ride in Cyclonus. Then there was Wheeljack and other's riding in ratchet. :wtf

actually, every transformer supposedly has a subspace pocket, another dimension where they can store equipment, like their weapons when they are in their alternate modes. ever notice how omega supreme could fly somewhere with just the rocket component and land somewhere and transform with all of his stuff, he used a subspace pocket.
