Because the Preds would have won the war in episode one, and Kids wouldn't ask their Mums to buy them Optimus Primal toys if the big ape bought the farm before the Beast Wars happened.

He was more concerned about fighting an honourable war against the Maximals rather than wiping out their Autobot anscestors . Killing a stasis locked Prime wasn't really Dinobot's style.

I don't think Dinobot was ever that calculating, being a creature of impulse he just wanted to fight and defeat Maximals - didn't even seem too keen on Cybertron.

Because Megatron wanted to savour his victory. It's a common mistake that villains do in order to allow the heroes to survive and progress the story (as elaborated on by Octavian Prime).

Megatron cared, but he's also an opportunist. The planet that they landed on didn't seem like Earth, but it was rich in raw Energon, yes.

That was the overall Predacon agenda, spearheaded by Megatron. It wasn't necessarily Dinobot's personal mission. He follows where honour guides him (Protoss'd!).

He attempted to usurp leadership when he thought that Megatron had massively failed as a leader to lead them to Earth. And Megatron was never planning on starting a war against the Predacons, he was planning on starting one against the Maximals.
