3-minute clip of Animated on Cartoon Network.com

I'd like to say something to the contrary, but I watched all three Star Wars prequels in the theater multiple times...

Wow I think it looks great. Haters are just mad now that the show actually looks kind of cool so they have to convince themselves it's going to suck.

Anyway, it looks like the Autobots are = Maximals now. The Maximals in BW who crashed on Earth were just explorers, not fighters, looks like they are just a bunch or repair bots here. Hopefully, Optimus is still the main bot in charge of the Autobots, but the underdog angle is always cool.

Energon Megatron's :con symbol is "clean and crisp" because it was drawn by a computer.

And the above Animated clips? The Autobot symbol on Lugnut and the Decepticon symbol on Teletraan I's computer were both hand drawn, and they're near perfect.

Hey, I don't work for Cartoon Network. I'm not trying to defend anybody here. I'm just saying that one of the trade-offs of hand-drawn animation is the occasional off-model mistake. Lord knows it happened often enough in G1. More to the point, who the hell really cares.

Little details. Something like a cartoon (computer generated or hand drawn) can fall apart if the little details are constantly ignored or poorly executed. You can't build a successful show if the foundation's shaky. I'm not even talking about the animation style. I'm talking about animation, period.

With very few exceptions most of G1's faction symbols, while not perfect, were much better then the crap they had Megatron wearing all through that clip.

If they want to use the Teen Titan animation style, that's fine, as long as the writing and voice acting is up to par (which seems to be the case). My point is, they need to improve on the details within their own style.

I mean if they screw up things as simple and universal as faction symbols, what are we to expect concerning the rest of the series?

Take the original animated Batman cartoon from 1992. Every frame was a work of art, the backgrounds and small details were given just as much attention as the more important characters and objects, and the result was a brilliantly looking cartoon. Here it seems like they're just getting the main stuff in the frame done (which looks as good as it can in the chosen animation style), but then half-a$$ing the rest. What can we expect if they can't even bother to draw a half-way decent Decepticon emblem?

Without a solid the base (small details, backgrounds, etc....) the rest of the cartoon risks falling apart.

Now I'm more then willing to accept that this clip isn't the 100% finished product, and the final cut will rectify most of the issues I have with it. I just don't accept "well it's hand drawn" as an excuse for the shoddy work seen with the faction symbols. Even Megatron's "smiling symbol" from the '86 movie looked more like a correct 'Con symbol then what we saw in this Animated clip. Besides, as far as the style goes, the primary stuff looks very well done. So why can't they take the time to draw faction symbols (probably one of the easier things to draw TF wise) properly?

Seeker, I'm sorry, but I won't slavishly watch anything that has the Transformers name on it. I'll probably watch Animated, the writing seems top notch. Still, that doesn't mean I'm ready to bow down to the mightiness of Transformers Animated, as there still seems to be a lot of animation kinks to work out. And I'll probably still avoid the toy line (save Blitzwing, and possibly Earth Megatron).

I mean take Beast Machines for example. That had the Transformers brand slapped on it, but I prefer my cartoons not to have hippies using them as propaganda.

...it seems very obvious you have a greater problem with the cartoon than a faction symbol.

Read the post, it's more then just a faction symbol, then we'll talk about it's length.

Anyway, hmmm, greater problems with the cartoon? Well lets see, it's got great writing and great voice acting, and the story seems interesting (the Autobots being a far cry from their seemingly perfect selves is very interesting). The only thing about the cartoon as a whole that I really don't like is the animation style, and if everything else is to par I can easily overlook the "guys in suites" look.

So no, I don't really have the unhealthy hatred for the cartoon that you seem to be implying. In fact I'm looking forward to the premier (still not sure if YTV will air it in the same time slot as Cartoon Network will though :().

Look, maybe I'm spoiled. My favourite cartoons are Futurama and Batman: The Animated series. Both of which are superb when it comes to animation quality. Furthermore, despite the ridiculously poor writing, the Unicron Trilogy was very good in terms of animation. So yeah, G1 had more then its fare share of animation errors, but look at the era and the circumstances it was created in.

Similar and worse animation error like screwing up a fairly simple faction symbol in this day and age just reeks of laziness and says that the animators, regardless of the overall aesthetic, don't care about the small details.

I seriously think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. It's one little thing, dude. Relax. Do you see the rest of the cartoon being consistently off-model?

No, as I've said plenty of times before I'm very much looking forward to this cartoon. Fact is though, little things like that bug me. If it's just something that happens once and a while then that's fine, because I admit, animation mistakes do happen, especially when they're hand drawn. All I'm really trying to get across is that this isn't the 100% perfect series people are making it out to be. It still needs some cleaning up.

EDIT-My main concern here is that messing up small details will become the norm, which isn't a good thing for the overall quality of the series.

Seriously...animation mistakes happen all the time (if that's what it is), and they're just minute things like this. Chill out, man.

^^

I find it funny that both you and Lord Madhammer assume I'm yelling like a screaming lunatic. Tis the curse of the interweb I suppose.

Anyway let me assure you both that currently I'm very relaxed and I don't need to "chill out."
