Well for one you should've ASKED BEFORE BIDDING how much shipping would be to you. Once you bid and win you are obligated to pay the shipping costs, even if it is inflated. BUYER BEWARE, do your homework next time and remember to ASK if it does not explicitly state how much. If you are not comfortable with the price of shipping then do NOT bid, period. The onus is on YOU to check, do not assume the seller will charge actual shipping. :redface

If shipping is the same for PR, then S/H should be kept at $8.  That's a great deal for a Skylinx though, which is probably why he wanted to jack up the shipping because he thinks Skylinx is worth more than the winning bid.

Or after packing it the seller realized it is considerably heavier and would cost more than $8.00 to ship.

Regardless if it stated $8.00 and he later changed higher, if he can prove it actually costs more to ship b/c of the weight you are still obligated to pay the shipping.

Remember, you NEED to check the cost of shipping BEFORE bidding. Reasonable shipping prices is the buyers responsiblity, not the seller.

The best you can hope for is to remain firm during your correspondence with the seller and stress he wrote shipping was $8.00 and hold him to it. Otherwise, you are S.O.L.

Lastly, from a sellers perspective even if the are not a full-time seller, their time is money; so they can and will charge you the buyer a handling charge. When you work and/or bill hourly, every minute counts, from a sellers perspective their time is precious too. Many on-line stores also consider those factors and charge a handling fee, if you do not accept it, do not buy from them, the same applies here to auctions.
