Blackout automorph problem

Recommended Posts

I got my self a Blackout sometime ago, but it has a major problem- I think the automorph gears are assembled in the wrong way, as I can't connect the legs to the helicopter's top and make them stay there. So there's an ugly looking gap on the copter's back...

Anyone knows how to fix this?

Are you sure it's a mechnical issue? If you squeeze the legs into the top, will the gap close flush? Mine had a similar problem. I had to thicken up the leg posts with some clear nail polish to give the posts some grab.

I bet that if you get the legs flush, the front starts automorphing. The only way to solve is to take it apart & re-align the gears...

Something tells me what's going on is similar to what happens with the first BB. People don't know right away how to properly handle it and they end up doing something they shouldn't that breaks or knocks something out of place.

In this case, my Blackout held his copter mode perfectly out of the case and when I tried to transform him back I had the problem getting the nose and legs to stay in place.

What I think happened was in the initial transformation I (and others as well) may have accidentally pushed on the nose section or head in a bad way instead of letting the automorph handle it and perhaps knocked the gear off a bit.

You don't notice you did it right away either, so that may be why nobody is thinking about it.

When we transform figs for the first time I think we tend to fumble around with a bit to see what parts move in what ways and we may just push or pull a little too hard sometimes. This could just be a time where it simply wasn't as obvious to detect as opposed to when you push too hard and break a part.

I hope they ditch the automorph gimmick in the future. Too many potential problems.

I used super glue and let it dry. But both work. Next on my TF Superglue project, '09 BB's shoulder pads.

Is it just on Hasbro's Blackout? Because I got Takara's one, and it works just fine, except for the dwarfish size compared to other Voyagers, of course.

My Blackout and he had the same problem... nothing big, just the gears mis-aligned. It was an easy fix. take his nose/head section apart ( two screws) and align the legs and nose in heli mode then re-assemble.

From what I'm hearing, if you bought Blackout individually, there's automorph problems, but O haven't heard of many cases where people bought the desert attack pack with Scorpy. Mine's from the desert pack and it works fine.

Today I reapired Blackout... fixing Automorph was easy, took 5 minutes including assembly...you just take out 3 screws, pull out the rollbar, set the middle section and put everything back together...

And there's no need to thickne the leg pegs- I just made the leg wholes a bit deeper with the screw driver and now it's much better.

Think Blackout and Scorponok will be next robots to have a gallery of their own on my site...
