Last year when I begun to look around for KO combiner teams I had little success. But now in the year 2007 after the release of the live action movie transformers KOs have been flowing in Big Lot and Family Dollar like topical punch kool-aid. And this time I jumped on the chance to get them and see how they stay up to real ones. Some good, some could used more work, some just really weird. So to help better research KO I'm going to do what been done a thousand times, make a thread. :tftongue (Also there a thread about where to find them in retail stores http://www.TFans.com/talk/index.php?showtopic=12933 )

 

 

So far I got a hold of

 

Defensor - My Hot Spot was uneven fixed it by retighten the screws and readjusting. couple of the others was bit uneven. I ended up repainting the team.

 

Superion - Sliverbolt wasn't tightly screwed slighly smaller then the real one, the other bots I had no real problem just they head was slighly smaller then the orginal them also ( I was planning on use Air Raid and Sligshot as parts to complete my G2 Superion)

 

Bruticus - suprise! it can almost be passed off as a real Bruticus(Ruination), but the plastic feel cheaper

 

RM Star Saber - better then what I expected, kinda feel like I'm playing with a small size Gundam model kit

 

RM Victory Leo - same

 

RM Doubleface - pretty good it can definetly pass for a real tf figures

 

RM yellow bike - same till you encounter the cheap flame paint stickers

 

Slapper - fell like a transmetal lite figure that missing the cystral spark thingie

 

 

My wishlist

 

Lio Kaiser (could never find the real one)- form what I gather there 3 sizes, goes by the and Armourrakker, and Hellbat is replace by a cheap version of Double Dealer that in robot mode is smaller then the rest of the team, and minus the beast force parts ( poor beast minicons :tfsad ) debating weither or not to pay 20 bucks for it ( still a heck of a lot cheaper then 200 XD)

 

Abmious- terrorcons are cool, don't know the ko name, Blot and Two head Dog is replaced by two technobots, I know there was once a ko with all the orginal team members

 

Menasor - can't remember the ko name, like Abmious Dead End and the other dude is replaced by technobots, there once was a ko with the orginal team also, And come in 3 sizes

 

KO that I'm curious about

 

Engeron/Superlink Wing Saber- dexlue size hmm, under the line of Cybertron jr

 

Cybertron/Galaxy Force Scrouge/Flame Convoy same as Wing Saber

 

Landcross - seem like an interesting team. can mix match robot forms of the team and Lio Kaiser rival

I have to say, as far as the KO's go in the discount stores, AKA: Big Lots, Family Dollar, those Ko's are cool if you take your stuff out of the box and like to display it, and have time on your hands to doctor them up. They are also spectacular if you need to create realistic battles and literally need to napalm or set ablaze your transformer or even throw it against the wall. $6 bucks worth the price of an epic battle I'd say. However, these re-issue KO's from China that have original art work and the like, I would say are not 100% worth the price point, (average) 64.99 but look at it this way, for those of us that don't open our toys "anymore" such as myself, what really is the difference between these and the fifty dollar or so Takara window box re-issues. If I were to open them up I may have serious problems with them the ame as the problems people have with swoop or mirage. Overall I'd rather have a brand new KO with minimal problems and fresh paint than have a loose original one missing accessories. How will I display that in the box with out the GD! box? I hate when people suggest buying a loose original. I don't want a toy someone else had a good time with.

congradulations on your purchase of a Code007 Destroy Monarch. Please note that this is a bootleged version of megatron and you can tell. Over all the toy is slightly larger than your real megatron, although some parts are slightly smaller than the real one. Also, unlike the official American release of Megatron this toy does in theory fire plasic bullets, up to a range of 3 inches. Also be careful because he tends to fall apart, mostly his chest components which are not screwed in, but just clipped on. Make sure you notice that his his hip are very lose, and no matter how much you try to tighten the screw it won't do anything. His shoulders are pretty good. Finally, please note that the plastic quality over all is rather poor.

 

Now for the good stuff! He has all the original MEgatron Accessories including the full stock, silencer and Scope Which fit a real megatron perfectly as well as his silver blaster and Sword. He also comes with 20 plastic bullets you can fire from him in gun mode or from his gun platform made from the stock scope and silencer.

 

 

I got the guy for the accessories, but finding out he fired in any capacity was pretty sweet. In the end I kept the extras and gave the figure to a friend of mine. He assured me that megatron would go about kicking galvatron's ass and take over as the leader of the decepticons.

Update for my quest

 

Since my last posting I received a few more KOs

 

I got the Big Lots Beast Wars Rattrap and Terrorsaur they pretty ok feel light the real average beast wars basic figures

 

received the KO Landcross and KO Lio Kaiser (oddly I order at different date but both came in the mail yesterday at the same time)

 

Landcross is pretty cool as expected just had some trouble doing the 2 in 1 combination I ended up loosen up the screws to fix that. Another odd thing is I felt like I had this figure before, just felt like I was a kid again playing with some of the micromaster figures.

 

Lio Kaiser (well man if you like me and don't feel like going on a long hunt for a real lio kaiser auctions or paying 600+ for him is not your style) is a good sub. for the real one I believe (hence I believe never having the real figure). As I recently discovered last month the KO Lio Kaiser is missing Hell Bat but was replaced by a Double Dealer missing his vulture form, so I debated whether or not to get this set. Upon further research on the orginal team KO, it's extremely hard to come by and colorful may I add. To further my dissonance, the Double Dealer replacement was always pictured smaller then rest of the crew and looking like he a short arm when combined. So I decided to give it a try after reading some review say it was a decent KO. Plus I figure I can try to kitbash Double Dealer (see if I can get the bird mode in risky yes). OK enough of the side story, Lio Kaiser was better then I expected!! The plastic is pretty solid from the other KO I encountered, and Double Dealer is really normal size (I'm assuming the ones that was picture was either the person didn't bother to pull out the legs further in robot nor pull out the fist in Lio Kaiser form. or just I ended up with one that could stand correctly). The only problem I had with this KO is that some of the stickers came off (but that can be easily fix :tftongue) So in the end Lio Kaiser was a good buy from my experience

There are KO sets of Terrorcons and Predacons available. Colors and quality vary. I have a Terrorcons set which has the colors of two of them reversed (for example the shark guy is blue with grey limbs instead of the other way around). The overall quality is okay but the combiner ports don't work so they cannot merge.

 

There is a common KO set of part Stunticons but usually it is missing 2 of them and instead has 2 Technobots.

The Abominus has the correct Terrorcons, just that two of them have inverse colors. I got mine on ebay a while back, not sure if you can get it anywhere else. The same seller had the KO G1 Megatron. Heck I'd sell my KO Terrorcon set if you are really interested, just keep in mind they cannot combine fully. (I actually really like the switched colors, for novelty.)

Other than that, I'm not too interested in those KO's except in some of the BW figs, mainly that Transmetal Skunk dude and Slapper.
