More or less.

Although you left out Hot Rod between Bumblebee and Cheetor.

I'm never going to understand why people think Bumblebee fits that mold. Hot Shot / Cheetor / Hot Rod are all typical "callow, impetuous youth" characters, but Bumblebee wasn't like that at all IMO. He was "the little guy with a big heart". Sideswipe is the closest thing G1 had to a Hot Shot-type character prior to TF:TM IMO.

Well, he doesn't fit it 100% but there are other very similar attributes, such as "the one who relates most to humans," "the one who's bravery tends to exceed his capabilities," etc.

Bumblebee was basically Hot Rod before Hot Rod was Hot Rod.

The prototype for that personality. Though I do agree that he wasn't quite the same as Hot Rod/Hotshot/Cheetor.

I don't think relating to humans/kids is a part of that character type... I would also say that in Hot Shot/Rod/Cheets' case, it's more that his naivete exceeds his intelligence. This type of character ends up getting PWNED not because they gave their all and failed, but because they thought they were too cool for school and ended up looking like a dumbass.

oh and when it comes to Transformers, alt modes are an indicator of personality as well... which one doesn't belong:

cheetah

sports car

another sports car

VW Beetle

I always thought Cheetor and Hotshot were mixtures of both Bumblebee and Cliffjumper. Both Cheetor and Hotshot were too gung-ho to be based solely on Bumblebee.

Each series has to have a young character that the target audience can relate to, Bumblebee, Hotrod, Wheelie, Cheetor, Nightscream, Sideburn, Hotshot, Ironhide .... personally I don't like these characters but they can never be as annoying as the Scott and T-Bob combo or Scooter. :tfpuke
