G1 Megatron finally banned from ebay even in robot form

Recommended Posts

:tfmad This is Bull Blot I ordered my Encore from Walmart.com with no modifications. I was realy surprized I was expecting a huge frickin orange piece of plastic attached yet no MP Megs can be offered. The gun laws are very strange indeed.

And I still see that the Code 007 DX Super Alloy TransforMERS super change series Destroy Monarch is still listed un touched. :P

How is keeping the police officers safer? They would be the ones with the real guns that end up shooting someone with a fake gun. This is really about liability and police departments not wanting to get sued.

However, the law is the law but since that law is based on a person getting shot by a cop because they are holding a real looking toy gun, there should be an exception made for G1 Megatron.

1) The original is smaller than the real gun, while the MP version is much larger than the real P-38.

2) No Transformers collector would ever be in a situation that finds them holding either G1 Megatron, in gun mode, that might endanger their life or the lives of others.

3) The colors are not typical of the real weapon.

4) It's a Whalther P-38. Who the hell even uses that kind of gun anyway? Only a gun collector would have one of those, and even then it would probably be the kind that's done in a flat black finish.

Taking all of that into account, ebay should make an exception when it comes to toy guns that transform into toy robots.

Orange plug = not real gun. It's an easy way to tell if that kid running down the street has a cap gun or not. Sure, some kids remove the orange plug and I guess some dick could paint the tip of his REAL gun orange, but no system is perfect. It is also absolutely about liability. Police departments can function much more effectively if they aren't having to waste time and resources in litigation, don't you think?

2) Maybe, maybe not... but the issue isn't with just G1 Megatron either, the issue is with the ebay UK's policy on firearm replicas, a category this figure certainly falls under. (With that said, there sure do seem to be a lot of items listed that are in violation of that policy, so I wonder how serious they are in enforcing said policy.) I had to go get a license so I could carry a firearm....maybe the answer is that we could get a special license saying that you are an "Official Collector of Transforming Robots" and then you could buy or sell them on ebay? [/sarcasm]

3) So? Are you suggesting that if a situation arose where someone pointed a G1 Megatron at a police officer in a threating manner he should ignore the threat because the colors aren't the same? I'm sorry, but I'm not going to expect police officers to look at a gun and think "hey, that's not the right color gray for that weapon." Police officers are expected to react in terms of seconds, and if a toy gun is not immediately recognizable as a toy, then that creates a problem. Put yourself in their shoes for a moment (and pretend you don't know anything about Transformers.) You just chased some kid down for stealing a bicycle and you corner him. He reaches in his pocket and pulls out something that is the same size and shape of a firearm and points it at you. Are you going to want to take the time and see if its the right color for the real thing or has a Decepticon sticker on the side while there is a real possibility that you could be shot in the next two seconds?

4) Again, you're assuming that a police officer will have time to look and see what kind of gun is being pointed at him before deciding how to react. The simple fact is, all police officers really have time to do is look and see what is being pointed at him, determine if it is the same size and shape of a weapon and then decide how to act. They don't have the luxury of time to figure out what to do. If I told you I had one of two guns in my pocket, a real Walther P38 or a G1 Megatron, and that I was going to take it out and point it at you and you had 2 seconds to decide if it was the toy or the real thing, would YOU feel confident that you could make the right call 10 times out of 10? I wouldn't, and I've owned both the real thing and the toy.

Look, I'm not one of those nut cases that says that Megatron and all other toy guns should be banned. I'm not crazy about G1 Megatron from a collector standpoint, but I understand people who are, and I don't even necessarily agree that ebay should have the policy in the first place because you are correct, the only people wanting to buy Megatron are toy collectors and not hardened criminals. However, I don't think that we should give ebay or anyone else a hard time if they decide not to carry something that doesn't comform to standards or policies they have set. Believe it or not, there ARE other ways to get a G1 Megatron.

Now this discussion has done got too serious for me.

Come on Guys... We all know that Doom, Marlyn Manson, and Megatron were responsible for Columbine and the Virginia Tech shootings. Ebay is just trying to protect honest, hardworking, NRA card carrying, Republica... I mean, Americans.

With out this kind of protection, how could wealthy parents leave their children unsuperviesed with credit cards? Or relax while they watch 60 hours of unmonitored TV a week. If e-bay didn't enforce this ban, parents might have to pay attention to what their children do online. They could be buying oversised TOY GUNS!!!

Having to raise your children is un-American. Ebay knows that. Why all the hate?

Did I read this wrong, or did you just try to blame bad parenting on Republicans?

No, I'm blaming bad gun control on republicans.

So, the party who is favor of looser gun regulation laws is responsible for Ebay's strict toy gun policy? :tfhuh

Absurd as Powerglide.

I have to agree that police don't usually have the luxury of time to scrutinize the guns being pointed at them. I've owned Megs, and I know it doesn't look real, but it scared the sh*t outta my mother in law anyway. Even with the stock and silencer attached. This is just another case of irresponsible f**kwits screwing things up for everyone.

Edit: So when does this ridiculous ban take effect? I mean there are alot of them on ebay, some just listed today.....

its in place already I assume ebay will eventually add the firearms warning to the listings people are putting on and then just give you a strike for selling one like I received.

Interesting, in this country that it's easier for some, "such as messed up teens looking to set off a few rounds in their schools", to purchase a real gun, then it is for fan boys to purchase a fake one, that turns into a robot? hmmmm very curious indeed. Thank you dubba-yah! I love how our laws work. :yay :usa

ebay is teh lame
