It seems to have more of a "cell shaded" look than a lot of your other stuff.

 

Are you using a new program, or is your style just changing?

I gotta disagree. I love a lot of splendics work and his histe is the bomb but I'd like to see a bit more texturing going on.

No, anti-shiny generally means there's a texture there since light is reflected less due to the texture itself. There should be parts that have a matte like finish. Like for instance, any typical car engine or exhaust is not shiny. The problem I have with a lot of 3-D robot models is that no one uses any texture so the bots come out completely shiny and a little bland. Having the exterior auto parts being shiny is good but many of the interior parts such as robot joints and parts that aren't part of the exterior alt mode should be textured.

 

I get what ur saying - not enough TF modelers use textures on their 'bots. Why? Cause it's far easier to assign a generic shiny material to a whole bot, with only changing the colour slider - either the artist can't - or isn't familiar with the UV mapping side of things or they can't be bothered.

 

But i agree - once u texture a bot up - it makes a world of difference, u can do away with MANY of the panel lines, or holes or vents or whatever - thus reducing ur model's polys and making a more streamlined and optimized model. Plus once u have UV mapped ur model, u can then add spec high lights, dirt/wear and tear - colour swaps at the press of a button.

 

But i guess that is a whole other skill set too (to make decent textures thru photoshop or similar).

I did more experimenting with the lighting since this bludgeon is supposed to look old and decrepit, I was trying to go for a creepier look...since yes my skills in texturing are almost non-existent. blame the school I was in...which closed down before they could really get into teaching texturing and animating...basically I had to learn the rest on my own..unfortunately, I don't have the time or money to contiune my 3D education more seriously for the time being. So for now, these will have t o do :)

What do you model in? There's plenty of tutorials on UVmapping and texturing out there. And if you need help with texturing, I could give you some advice.
