Downshift is a grea homage to...

Recommended Posts

Yup...with more observations, I'm convinced that E-Downshift is a stronger homage in design to his G1 counterpart that Wheeljack. The only thing that he has that Wheejlack has are the paint colors, striped mouthplate, and ears...every other single detail on that toy is from Downshift, right down to the car mode. Also with G1 Wheeljack's helmet, he never had such strong crests and designs. I was curious to where they come from on the Energon Downshift toy. I now realize they are also from G1 Downshift...the Wheeljack homage is narrowing. It's looking to me that the name "Downshift" is perfectly fitting considering if you removed the red and green paint aps, he'd just about be a dead-on homage....

well i can see you point but his head and the stripes are very much trates of wheeljack

Eh, I can see where you're coming from , but I think G1 Downshift and Wheeljack are also pretty similar...their robot modes, especially:

The two things that sell me on the Downshift/Wheeljack homage are: 1) the paintjob, obviously; and 2) the spoilers on E-Downshift.

Yeah, but that isn't anything like Wheeljack's G1 car mode..

G1 Downshift, wasnt that alt mode used in some James Bond movie once? with Connery and the car would go under water

Probably not. Thats an early 80's Toyota Supra, Toyotas answer to the Z car. My sister had one. Pretty bad ass little car for the time. But G1 Downshift and Wheeljack are pretty similar in a lot of ways. The way the feet and legs transform is pretty much unique to those two guys. And minicon Sparkplug.

Nope, it was a Lotus Esprit from 1977's "The Spy Who Loved Me" starring Roger Moore.

The legs remind me of BT Lambor/Alt Side Swipe...

Sorry, dude. Its a Supra. Ok, I can see why you think its an Esprit, you almost had me convinced there for a second. Ive never noticed the similarity of the shape of those 2 cars. But click this link and look at the car. Notice the slant of the front clip, and the way the front valance is shaped. The Esprit's hood rakes down much more sharply than the Supra, since I think the Lotus is a mid engine car. But the dead giveaway is the quarter windows. The ones on the supra are longer, and end kind of triangular, whereas the Esprit's are shorter and more square. And notice the relation of the size of the door windows to those quarter windows. If we could get a good shot of G1 Downshift's tail, that'd seal the deal, since there is a good shot of the Supra's tail end.
