Thoughts on Energon series so far

Recommended Posts

I love the superlink episodes (even tho I don't understand any of the dialogue), and I really feared what the translation would be like, but I have to say I'm impressed. The voice acting is good for the most part, and think the animation is top notch. I hope future episodes explain all the mysteries (return of Prime and new forms), but having seen the first four Superlink episodes, I really hope energon doesn't get censored. I think kids can handle nameless bots getting blown to pieces, lets just hope the producers and networks feel the same way :redface

Well at the end of Armada, wasn't Prime just floating around saying something like, "My task is done."

Then all of a sudden he's back in charge of everyone.

yeah, that's right. I completely forgot about that. My bad.

After one episode, we cant expect much in the story line Department. Here is my theory on why they changed forms. When they came to earth, they took on the forms of the local surroundings. My guess is when they went back to Cybertron, they took on their old forms, or a new form with a combination of what they liked from earth mixed in with what they liked on Cybertron.

Well its being shown on cartoon network, not fox kids, so I dont think we have to worry.

There is something not a lot of people know about all the different Convoy-like Primes in every TF series. The information I am about to give you is only 2nd hand information and highly theoretical. I'll try to find sources and edit it here when I can.

Oh...and one last thing, This explanation will contain major Japanese G1 series spoilers, so only read ahead if you really curious..

Time Line:

G1 - The original Optimus Prime and original Megatron land on Earth. War happens. Prime dies in TF:TM. Returns in Season 3 to resume command. Sometime between this point and the beginning of Headmasters, Optimus returns the Matrix to Hot Rod (Rodimus). Optimus dies in Headmasters. Between the rest of Headmasters, MasterForce, and Victory, Rodimus is only seen rarely, as focus is on a newer breed of TFs (The Headmasters, Pretenders, etc). In the comic book continuity, we get Zone, Battlestars, and Operation Combination. It is in Battlestars that Optimus Prime returns as Star Convoy, a larger-than-gestalt size TF, using Rodimus as the Matrix (Rodimus still having the matrix).

Now, between Battlestars and the beginning of Beast Wars, the Autobots have won the great war. They have also figured out a way to split the Matrix of Leadership into different parts. Each Convoy / Prime we see has only a piece of the original Matrix of Leadership.

Primal, Lio Convoy, Lio Jr (Convoy in training), and Big Convoy from the Beast Wars series all have their own part of the Matrix (except Lio Jr, he's in training to get one).

Fire Convoy from RID/Car Robots has a part of the Matrix.

Armada Convoy has a part of the Matrix. We even see it (which also explains why its smaller than the original)

Superlink Conoy will probably also have his own piece of the matrix.

Another thing I should add as well is that all the Convoys / Optimus Primes in each series are decendants of the G1 Convoy / Optimus Prime, which is why they all have similar features.

Now, as for fitting everything into one continuity is a bit tricky, but completely plausible. We already know that the Beast Wars series happened after G1. Beast Wars 2 and Beast Wars Neo happened after this within the same time line.

RID / Car Robots is a unique one. Megatron, like the one in Beast Wars, is a war criminal. He escaped into an alternate universe with his predacons. Fire Convoy follows him to track him down. In this alternate time line, the G1 war never happened on Earth, which is why there are no Decepticons until they are created, why the Protoforms never took shape until then, and why there are no other Transformers other than them. Fire Convoy promptly captures Megatron and everyone else. All the TFs on Earth return to Cybertron in their own (original) universe.

For Armada and (obviously) SuperLink, I'm still trying to piece it all together / hear ideas as to what happened. It's possible the TFs / Mini-cons used time travel, as they are prone to doing, or its another alternate universe deal.

Anyone willing to speculate how Armada and SuperLink are fitting in?

I honestly don't think that R.I.D., Armada, or Energon are connected to G1 or any of the other previous series. G1 through Beast eras as well as Masterforce, Victory, and Headmasters I can accept. Maybe even the comics like Battlestars and the rest. But I have seen nothing to suggest that R.I.D is connected to the original G1 cartoon, as well as Armada/Energon. Sure they share similar names as the characters from G1, but that's just giving props to the original. Armada and Energon are obviously connected though. As for the return of Energon Prime, the Mini-cons, Primus, and any other questions, I do believe they will be addressed as the series progresses. We've only seen a handful of episodes so far, just wait and see.

Well I haven't seen the 1st episdode but i did see number 2 (heh heh) I thought it was pretty good except of course for the people and the laws how the humans are controlling the transformers. I thought the animation was good and especially liked how the lasers actually hurt and how punches and kicks follow through instead of someone running into the extended leg/arm. This series is so far promising from what i've seen and if anyone knows where to view the first episode please tell me.

I'm sure most everyone knows of the Japanese-only TF series that happened after Optimus returned and cleaned the Hate Plague do exist. The comics: Zone, BattleStars, and Operation Combination - are in fact part of the G1 continuity, even though the original cast of characters make rare appearances if at all. The comics could be found in Japan's "TV Magazine". If I recall, there is somebody out there in the process of translating them into English.

R.I.D, Armada, and Energon/SuperLink may very well be completely different branches with only names in common. However, lets consider that Armada and Energon are obviously connected. This means that we have yet to see how either of them fit in to the continuity. Perhaps something will be revealed later on in Energon, maybe not, but for now I'm certainly keeping an open mind.
