Am I the only one who doesn't love the alternators

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm not yelling in this post...

e. Can't use cars from certain companies. If it wasn't liscenced, they could make something that looked almost like those cars, like RiD did.

RiD was licensed too! You are just making up facts here... Do you really think DaimlerChrysler agreed to Sideburn's Universe Repaint????

Side Burn was a licensed Viper.

Very few (if any) of the others were licensed vehicles, just like G1.

Get your own facts straight before you go jumping on others.

I know Universe Sideburn was licensed, I spent $7.00 USD on the piece of crap, I read the card, I was the first on to post that fact on this thread!

The comparison between Alts and RiD is unfair but both Alts/BTs and some RiD cars are licensed by the car companies. IMO they are both as good as scale models on the outside, except for perhaps V6 Sideburn (Universe) who was even approved by DaimlerChrysler.

I was disputing NovaSaber's facts that "being licensed" means that the Alt line isn't as good as not "being licensed".

Alternators/Binaltech are Transformers G1 perfected. That's why people love the line.

Alternators/Binaltech aren't G1 perfected. That's why people complain about the line.

How Alternators manages to suck as a line even though it consists of great individual toys:

1. They're liscenced. Crap that comes with being liscenced includes:

a. Being (as someone said) about the car, not the robot. Transformers are robots that turn into cars (or other things), not cars that turn into robots.

b. Car companies can dictate color schemes.

c. Hasbro has to worry about car copyrights as well as toy copyrights, making it twice as hard to use the names they want.

d. It's limited to currently produced vehicles.

e. Can't use cars from certain companies. If it wasn't liscenced, they could make something that looked almost like those cars, like RiD did.

Lord Madhammer hit the nail on the head.

I'm guessing that Hasbro got busted by Dodge at some point over their use of the Viper in RiD. Probably came up when Hasbro was sitting down with Dodge to talk Alternators... That would at least explain to me why the first version of Sideburn didn't have any "Dodge Viper" stuff on his packaging, but the second one did.

Do you really think DaimlerChrysler agreed to Sideburn's Universe Repaint????

b. Car companies can dictate color schemes.

Universe Sideburn is NOT the current Viper design yet it's licensed

d. It's limited to currently produced vehicles.

Last thing I am going to say: The Diaclone "car robots" were as close to scale models as possible and they weren't licensed...Ooppps, I think I just made NovaSaber point :redface

It really does include the extra limitations I noted, though.

DaimlerChrysler is clearly less demanding than certain other car companies. (Particularly GM.) In fact, that may be why Hasbro is using so many of their cars.

3. Beasts could even fit within the "liscenced cars" concept: Grimlock could be a truck that turns to a dinosaur (instead of a robot; a triple-changer would be even better, but I doubt they could pull it off), Ravage could be a car that turns to a jaguar, etc. Of course, that Ravage couldn't be a remold of an Autobot, which brings me to the other problem...

I suggested this WAY back long ago, and am glad someone else sees the potential of this idea. (Not saying you copied it, maybe didnt see my post and thought of it on your own) In fact this is the ONLY way Id want to see beasts as TFs. Imagine a big grey Hummer H1 that turns into a T-Rex. Theres the Grimlock Id want! And a Saleen S7 or similar that turns into a pterodactyl. How'd that be for Swoop?

Well, I'm partial to D.C. not just 'cause I've got a PT Cruiser (didn't care for them until I drove one) but because while other car companies talk about concept show cars, Chrysler produces them. For example: Viper, Prowler (Plymoth), PTs, new 300M, Crossfire, Magnum... Even the Neon SRT-4 is bad. 0-60 in 5.8 seconds in a Neon!?!?! That's fast for a $20K car!

Still got to love the Impreza WRX STi. 300hp, all wheel drive, manual controlled intercooler water spray. Goodness :thumb

Bumblebee needs come be brought back as a yellow Neon SRT-4

Similarly,

Grimlock = Hummer

Ironhide = Magnum
