Aren't their robot modes what they really look like? Save for the pieces of vehicle mode that's visible? I doubt he would look all that different if he scanned a stealth bomber or something.

PRIME is as much a truck/wheeled battering ram(G1 MARVEL UK WHEELED TANK LIKE VEHICLE PRE-EARTH), as he is a robot. STARSCREAM is as much jet/space fighter as he is scientistbot.

Well, from what I understand anyway. Apparently he's found in his protoform mode covered in ice. The other guys (Prime & SS at least) arrive later on (remember the "meteor" landing at the beginning of the trailer? - that's a protoform) but Megatron is iced over in a cave. His "cover" has already been blown so he just goes to find & fight (his brother according to the leaked script) Prime... But we'll see!

Nope, just compair the protoform toys of Starscream and Prime to how they look after they scan alt-modes.

After reading issues 1 -3 of the prequel comic, i'm inclined to agree.

 

 

Or since he has a space-faring form (one that he points on in dialogue) he doesn't need to contract his alt form to go through atmospheres

Megatron was a Cybertronain jet for the purposes of conquest. The Allspark is sent away from Cybertron, Megs follows without hesitation. Allspark reaches Earth after a Loooong time in space, megs STILL following, heads towards it "crashes" sinks under frozen water, and with next to NO power Freezes..

Fast Foreward> Autobots get to earth to find the Allspark, take on Earth modes to look incognito. Decipticons basicaly do the same but are also looking for Megs and want a lil extra firepower while doing it, and as far as espianoge is conserned, having one of you look like the "Law" doesnt hurt, while having a transforming boombox to sneek around, doesnt hurt hurt either.
