But that's irrelevent if the target audience doesn't care about them because then there's no reason to include them in the show.

Take the humans out of the Transformers movie and see how well it does.

THe human characters are there because CG robots for 2.5 hours would cost 900 Million dollers. They're practically a in camera trick to save money.

If you write alien/robot/animal characters well enough the audience will react as if they are people.

In BW the Kid Identification character was Cheetor, after that Hot Shot. THe kids post RID are vestigial marketing elements. Especialy in the comics.

No, what I'm saying isn't Transformers specific.

Agreed but in the case of Transformers, trying to comprehend their vast, alien minds will drive you insane. That's why the cartoons need human kids to put the tf's abstract thought-process in terms that humans can understand without being corrupted by madness. Using shrink-tech won't make all that much of a difference aside from allowing them to take on non-euclidian forms more reflective of their inner mind.

What's so hard to comprehend about "some have come to protect, most to destroy"? Sounds pretty self explanatory to me. One the mindset of each race is known to an audiance why further complicate with all of the technologies, & mythos, Robots come to earth to fight there war & the humans are caught in the crossfire. So conceptually easy to understand a child can understand it without needing to understand every specific detail. Same goes for adults the only difference them questioning/ridiculing every aspect that doesn't make sense or come off cheesy.

Transformers IMO have survived just fine without magical shrinky powers & it's absence in the movie will make little if any difference whether the film succeds or not. The only people who will be effected will be the hard core fans who can't seem to comprehend 84 G1 as it was does not work in what Transformers needs to be to achieve it's target audience in 2007.

I see no reason why G1 can't just be a reminder of the way things were, & appreciated as is opposed to needing to be the definitive vision of what transformers is today.

Good point. Apparently people need humans placed somwhere within a script to be able to relate. Pixar's Cars is a good example. Didn't exactly tank but also didn't do too well with audiences. As much as I enjoyed it for what it was a lot of people I've talked to couldn't get past the idea of an entire world populated entirely of vehicles. Sure the characters had human personality/manerisms/behaviors it still wasn't enough to bring most mainstream audiences into it on the same level as say Toy Story or the Incredibles. I did't really have this problem but most people however will feel strangely detached if no huma reference/references are made. As much as a WW movie wold rock, the budget would be colossal & the results disasterous. Comics/cartoons survive but that's only because the comic/cartoon industry is much different than the mainstream movie going audience. Sorry to say it but

Mainstream movie going audiences are Powerglideed & this is a non debatable point. :tflaugh

What about their minds has ever been portrayed as so vast and alien as to drive anyone insane, and how have the human kids ever counteracted that?

I'm just repeting the reasons given for why every TF series must have kids in it to act as human-to-cybertronian translators. Obviously, the TF's thought processes must be alien and non-euclidian if the audience needs fleshies to translate the tf's actions and language into human terms. I assumed that when you said "but one that would remake the entire franchise over in too severe a way", you meant that it would negatively reflect on the audience's ability to relate to the tf's. I'm pointing out that if the writters of the comics and cartoons are to be believed, then it's already neigh impossible for the audience to relate to tf's because they're such freakish horrors, so reinventing the franchice with the shrink-tech wouldn't make all that much of a difference.

When I said it "would remake the entire franchise over in too severe a way" I was speaking to Cuban Pete's idea that Magic Mass Shrinky could allow the Transformers to reduce their kibble to practically nothing and have uniform bot modes with infinite alt. modes available to them.

What the hell does that have to do with a human audience relating to the characters?

Um, any one ever heard of the Lion King?

If anything turns off audences it will be the nonhuman faces.
