The funny thing about conspiracy theories is that there always has to be this secret network of evil, powerful people who are running the whole world ("Illuminati," anyone?). But in reality, the evil, powerful people who are running the whole world do it right out in the open. It's just that they really are powerful people, and to be honest, no one really cares enough to do anything about it.

 

I don't really think either Kerry or Bush is anyone's puppet (jimoimj's well-taken point notwithstanding :tfgrin ); it's more of a symbiotic relationship as far as I see it. The lobbyists get what they want when they fund a certain candidate, and the candidate gets what he/she wants (i.e. power) when he/she agrees to support the interests of said lobbyists. One feeds the other. A politician may support a certain lobby out of pure cynical desire for power, but it doesn't necessarily have to be that way. I believe our current president, for instance, actually believes his own rhetoric, which is scarier to me than if he were just doing it to get votes/money.

 

Beyond that, I would definitely vote for Powell if he should ever run for president. He is the only person in the entire Bush administration who understands the meaning of the word "diplomacy," as well as its relative effectiveness compared to the "let's kick their asses" mentality.

 

And about Hillary.... well, I'm sure I'm not going to change anyone's mind about her -- people either love her or hate her. But I would certainly rather have her as president right now than Bush. Karl Rove himself has said that the damage we've done to America's reputation in the Middle East will take a generation to undo. Gee thanks -- that's a great way to make us safer from terrorists.

j/k, no back onto the topic, if posssible i really dont think that Optimus would make a good president, he is a soldier, and a general, and doesn't have the political delicacy that a lot of decepticons were given for characteristics, honestly the only autobots that i think could make it as politicians are Fort max (seeing as it really is spike that is in control, and possibly mirage.

Hmm.... now this is an interesting thought. What Transformer would make a good President...? You know, I'd still have to say Optimus Prime. True, he's a soldier / general and all that, but I think it was out of necessity, not choice, that he became so. Which in itself is an admirable quality. He doesn't seek fame and glory, but simply does what is needed when he is called to it. I think the best qualities O. Prime has are his compassion, his sense of justice, and his humility. An ability to recognize when you are wrong is necessary for any effective leader. *ahem*

that is all true, but when it would come to dealing with other nations, he really never had the political sense that others had. Prime was modled after John Wayne, and in all honesty Prime is more of a political push over compaired to other tf's. That is why i would rather have Fort max as a leader than Prime. he was controlled by Spike, who from the beginningwas basically the human ambassador to the autobots. It was just the movie that solidified that posistion for him. he has a big enough gearbox to realize when peace is not an option, and is not a machine programmed for a function. prime was, if megatron asked for a truce in order to launch a diabolical plan against the bots, prime would give it to him. he is too iconic. perhaps if we lived in a simpler time he could have made it, but as the world stands now, he would get eaten alive his first month in office and step down so as to not bring anymore shame to the title of president than has already happened in his term. Spike on the other hand has experience in human politics and knows how to surround himself with people to make him look good. Cerebros would be Secretary of state, Fort max would be Secretary of defense, Hot Rod would Vice President, ArCee would be press secretary, Springer would be Secretary of foriegn Affairs, and Ultra MAgnus would be a joint chief of staff along with prime, and Bumble bee, and Mirage

I agree about Shockwave. Actually, you *can* do a lot better than making decisions based on pure logic. After all, it would be logical to solve the problems of our economy by euthanizing those who cannot contribute to it. As Ebenezer Scrooge said, "let them die, and decrease the surplus population." No thanks.

 

About Starscream.... all I have to say is, HA!! Was there *ever* a Transformer who cared less about anyone or anything else?? He used everyone he crossed paths with, merely to achieve his selfish ends. Name one person (or robot, as the case may be) that Starscream ever did anything for, that didn't directly benefit him somehow. Even his talk about the Decepticon cause was really a smokescreen for his true cause -- himself. This is not who I want as my leader.

 

And BTW I think y'all are selling Prime short. Let's not be confused -- Peter Cullen modeled Prime's *voice* after John Wayne, not the character itself. Was Prime a sucker at times? Perhaps. But he was hardly ever irrational (except for when he took off solo to try and shoot down Megatron's starship in MTMTE!!), and always put the welfare of others before himself. Leadership is a lot more than mere administration, or management. It takes wisdom, discernment, compassion, and inner strength that does not need to prove itself. Prime had those qualities in spades.

 

BTW Goldbug was born on Earth as well, right...? ...just sayin'. :tfgrin

I like what David Wise said on the DVD interview... Optimus Prime, basically, is Abraham Lincoln. You can make a case for John Wayne too, but it depends on who's writing him. David wrote more G1 episodes than anyone else and that's usually consider the main medium for Transformers...

 

As President, Optimus would probably use war as a last resort. Besides, who would stand against him? Still, he'd be democratic, despite his title of Autobot leader not being democratic. There would definitely be peace in the world. "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" for sure.

 

He definitely wouldn't stoop low like politicians.

 

Starscream could be president because he's a backstabber. Heh.
