The mechanics in the movie TF's

Recommended Posts

A little thing going on in my mind...

Well, I saw the new TF movie trailer.... and I asked myself, if it would be even possible to put those advanced mechanics into the figures? The new Transformers in the movie look very very advanced in Transformations, could it possibly work in a toy? I mean, this is not just a simple car into robot mode transformation.... these are really advanced Transforer designs and Transformations...

No, it's impossible without making the car parts out of very bendy rubber. Many of the movie TF's actually reshape the car parts, and not just bending them - they skew along an axis, impossible to do with toy materials.

The protos and such we've seen so far are about the closest they can get.

Realistically, such detail is possible, but extremely impractical. Movie accurate transformations would be something reserved for a very expensive figure. Also, think of all of the little seams between the panels that would result when the toy is in it's alt-mode. Horrible.

plus they'd be really expensive to manufacture and to buy

Wouldn't really matter much either since with the whole "fragmenting into thousands of pieces and rearranging them elsewhere" gimmick, it's hard to even visually recognize which part ended up going where during a transformation. As long as there appears to be a rough correlation between color and overall bulk in the diff modes, it becomes too much of an exercise trying to distinguish whether a transformation believably becomes one part or another. If it were possible, I'd say it'd still be fairly impractical (not to mention making a toy much more unsafe than the old toys).

Do you have any images of the prototype figures? Any at all?

The instructions would be, like, Fourteen pages long! There would be subsections for fingers and Blot.

I think the question is: "Would you be willing to transform a Transformer that had the mechanics in the movie TF's."

*Waits eagerly for 1/4 scale Movie Prime*

Yes... Yes I would.

It would be more expensive but I'd love to find a couple that makes it challenging to transform a robot. Rubic's Transformers anyone? :thumb

Rubic's Transformers anyone?

Only problem would be this: You'd have him sitting on your shelf, half-transformed, and someone would spot him...

"Uh, Dude...?"

"I'M WORKING ON IT!"
