Megatron & Galvatron

Recommended Posts

I think a Megs and Galvy being separate characters would be an interesting concept. I think Marvel tried to do something like this when Galvatron came back in time, but it would be interesting to see DW try something like this. However, I am a little old school so I'd just stay with the Megatron and Galvatron being the same guy....

G1 Galvatron's tech spec bio:

FUNCTION: CITY COMMANDER

"My power is everything; defeat is absurd!"

Galvatron is a cold-hearted robotic villian. Determined to lead the Decepticons. Possesses enough strength to pulverize an Autobot into scrap metal. Unconquerable. Arrogant and compassionless. Plots against his allies, thus weakening his position. In robot mode, he carries a laser that emits chemically-produced, direct-current electricity.

To me, that'd be a great character / story setup. Kind of like a Decepticon version of the relationship between Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus (who is technically the Autobot City Commander); i.e. two high-ranking leaders, but the lower-ranking guy has more leadership experience. You could just imagine this guy seeing himself as a complete badass and a legitimate rival to Megatron, sort of like Starscream with the ability to back up all the trash he talks.

I'm old school as well, but I always thought that this could have been a cool idea...

I think if the Beast Wars line could have 4 different versions of Megatron, than we should be able to get and all new Galvatron mold. I don't buy repaints unless the characters are based on G1 characters like Starscream and Thundercracker. Even though those 2 armada toys were practically the same toy I felt like they were 2 different characters because of their g1 personalities.

Funny how common that mindset is. G1 repaints = cool; Any other TF repaints = evil. :tflaugh

G1 has definitely achieved Holy Grail status if we're going to exempt it from the same criticism we level at every other line. I mean, it wasn't until '86 that Has/Tak even started producing original figures!! :wtf

(Off-topic question: do you guys think Cyclonus and Scourge had totally new personalities (i.e. Unicron "created" them, and Skywarp and Thundercracker died), or did he just "alter" Skywarp's and Thundercracker's personalities to change them into their new forms? Complete speculation, of course, but just curious to know what y'all thought.)

I think he altered their previous personalities, but kept them as the same "people". Evidence to support this is in the fact that they seemed to remember previous events and characters from before they were reformatted. Their personalities also seemed to be more advanced versions of what Skywarp's and Thundercracker's were. Skywarp was always very loyal to Megatron(second only to soundwave, if not moreso), but as Cyclonus his personality was much more prominent, and his loyalty was taken to the extreme. The same goes for Thundercracker, we see in "fire in the mountain" he seriously contemplates going against megatrons orders for his own benefit. As Scourge, he goes all the way and disreguards Galvatron at a couple instances(such as when he took the Matrix for his own use).

I don't think all repaints are evil. I just like it when there is some distinct difference. For instance, alternators Sideswipe and Deadend have the same transformation but the car molds are so different they're almost not the same car. like G1 prowl and Smokescreen. I guess what I was trying to say is there has to be some thing special about the repaint to make me want to buy the same toy. Like a complete retooling or if I'm a big fan of what ever particular show the figure is from.

Oh I totally agree. (Though of course from a design and cost standpoint, they really *are* the same car.)

I just think it's funny in general how people tend to forget that G1 Starscream/Thundercracker/Skywarp (as well as Ramjet/Dirge/Thrust), Prowl/Bluestreak/Smokescreen, Sideswipe/Red alert, Ironhide/Ratchet, Rumble/Frenzy, Lazerbeak/Buzzsaw, Bumblebee/Cliffjumper, Grapple/Inferno, Hoist/Trailbreaker, Rewind/Eject, as well as Pipes, Swerve, Outback, Tailgate, and Hubcap, were ALL repaints or remolds of each other.

That's somehow all right, because it's G1, but the same standard doesn't apply to Armada, etc. Just a general observation. :tfgrin

in terms of G1 continuity in dreamwaves current (awesome) run, it's been great to see into megatron's head, especially in the current issue #4. he talks about becoming less emotional (although i don't know when he has shown emotion in any dreamwave comic) and more and more power hungry. i always liked the similarities between shockwave and galvatron, same colour, similar modes.and now that soundwave has "gone" , maybe unicron can find him and totally retool his character traits and we can have a megs and galvy standoff. anyhow, that's what i'm working on in my fan story....
