Your Dream Transformer Toy

I think I'd love to see the Macross Alpha Fighters repainted into Arielbots come to think about it. the Beta Fighter would make a niiice SILVERBOLT. I want to see the name AIRRAID on one of these robots. I had an Alpha fighter a long time ago and regret loosing it in ...the incident. :tfmad

Also, I'm still waiting for Binaltech Decepticon Jets.  Are there any molds or anything on the net for them? :tftongue  :clap

If you're seriously waiting for them, you're gonna be one sad little boy on Christmas morning. The Alternators line was designed to be a "car" line. (Hence the name.) Not that the sight of highly detailed and articulated Transformers who transform into realistic vehicles hasn't inspired a huge amount of wishful thinking and speculation on our part.

There are contractual issues that make it highly difficult for Hasbro to obtain licenses for military aircraft, much more so than for automobile manufacturers, who market their products to the general public, and who would benefit from the "product placement" the Alternators provide. Which is to say, the incentive just isn't there, on either side.

Aside from all that, as I've mentioned in other threads there is a massive scale problem that you would encounter with Decepticon Alternators (i.e. airplanes). Even a 1:48 scale F-15 would be as tall as Armada Unicron in robot mode, and that's twice as small as they would be if they were to scale with the rest of the Alternators. We're talking Shogun Warriors size here. Unless you buy the "magical shrinking robots" theory, it's highly problematic.

Don't get me wrong -- I would be the first in line for Alternators Starscream, but I really really doubt it would happen. (Though I would love to be proven wrong.) In the meantime, I'll be content with Robotmaster Starscream. :tfgrin

Well, I think that to get past the problems of making them to scale with the other Bianltech Autobots, couldn't parts of the jet be used as elaborate weapons? Like G-1 Ironhide/Ratchets canopy...I mean without it being cheesey. I'm thinking of Starscream with a sawed off double barrel ion cannon with ice box and cable tv? :beer :tftounge

I don't think this is the reason, considering there are quite a few companies that make relatively accurate toys and models of real military aircraft (some of them being much smaller than Hasbro).

I think you're more correct in that it has more to do with scale issues. An F-15 that transformed into a robot about the size of an Alternator car would have to be around 1:72 scale. Also, since the idea of the Alternators is to be as realistic as possible - I think the mostly grey paint jobs of real military jets doesn't work as well for transforming robots (as they'd all look essentially identical in vehicle mode).

Well, Takara made the original Autobots & Decepticons without obtaining any licenses for them. The same is true for a lot of those model airplanes you see. (You'll also notice that whereas the original RiD Sideburn had no Viper logo or brand logo on its package, the red "powerup" version did.) I was just saying that in order to achieve the same level of product tie-in that you see with the cars, Hasbro would have to go through a lot more effort.

And re: the gray colors -- so much for repaints!! :tflaugh "Hey look -- it's Starscream! ...Er, no -- it's Thundercracker! ...Er..."
