Help with dye

Recommended Posts

Well, the title asks my question. Im looking to dye my alt Prime that I just got, I hate the fat that he's all sorts of different shades of red. I know that there arent any decal sets for 1:24 scale dodge ram decals, so I need to know if I have to tape off any vehicle markings on Prime, or will the dye not take to it? thanks every one for your help.

You really can't tape anything off beings the dye is absorbed into the plastic, kinda like a marker on a piece of paper. Hold it there a while and the blot on the paper gets bigger because it absorbs the color. Also dipping paint into boiling water won't work. Also, I am not sure, but because prime is different shades of red some parts will have to take to the dye longer than other parts. you'll have to kinda eyeball it.

I don't speak for others, but in my expierence in dying alts. you might have to soak the parts in a warm soapy dish water to get the factory grease (mold release) off the plastic or the dye will not take to the plastic.

Also, as I am sure you know, you can't dye with a lighter color over a darkers color (no yellow over red, or you will get orange, or no effect at all) You'll have to make sure the color you use is darket than primes red.

Hope that helps :wave

yup... what he said /\ /\ /\

I've been thinking of a few projects using the Ram mold myself... I've seen a couple of customs on here that were obviously painted, but the decals seem to have been preserved. So it *does* beg the question: How???

If you mean by decals, stickers, there are no stickers on alts. If you mean stuff like the "viper" logo. You could paint around it, or paint over it then repaint the viper logo, in chrome, or silver. (I think the "aluminum color" actually looks more close to the chrome.-it is made by testors.
