for the record, that controversy-stirring picture should only have stirred controversy if you knew nothing about like, photography and scanning and stuff

Yeah, anyone with Photoshop or any other decent imaging software should have been able to make the proper adjustments to the original poorly scanned/photographed pics. As soon as I used the auto color and balance filter on them, I knew ol' Starscream's colors would be just fine. By the by, If the stripes are vinyl or decals, the alcohol should remove them without damaging the painted die-cast just fine. Then again, you guys do yours first and then let me know how it went.

So what happens when photoshop's auto color comes out still looking like ass? I guess my copy of pshop is broken along with my opinion. whatever.gif

I dunno if you got the memo, but we're all done being angsty and ghey now

But to address your comment: auto-coloring won't do it; you need to manually adjust the color slider. Do that and you'll end up with something that looks a lot closer to what we've been seeing. It was a low quality picture; it shouldn't be that surprising that it was a bit off. Honestly, I think that a lot less people would have panicked about the colors if the whole "dueling prototypes" issue hadn't been going on. It just fed into people's fears a bit IMO.

as much as i mostly agree with madhammer and stuff - that just gave me wacky-poke-my-eye-out wood

oh and for the record, I have nothing against a G1-accurate Starscream

I'm well aware of how to adjust color in photoshop, and realized fully that the original pic was oversaturated etc. My point was that no amount of adjustment to the overall picture made any difference to me; it still didn't look all that hot. Selecting parts and adjusting that is a different story, but at that point you're going beyond compensating for poor source. For me, the mold issue has nothing to do with it. It's the issue of throwing nearly $100 at a toy that I don't find visually appealing, especially knowing that the chances of them eventually re-coloring it into something that I will find appealing is high, whether it be a more toon-inspired SS, or even SW or TC done in this style (as it looks like their more subdued colors will make the cut). I'm sure this has escaped everybody's attention, but I'm trying to convince myself to keep my preorder... but every time I see that dark blue-tinged gray (which is still present in SOME of the latest crop of pics) it makes me go bleh. Of course, that just inspires certain people to insinuate that my opinion is faulty in some way, as it's obvious to anyone with a brain that this toy is beyond fault and anyone with a preference for something else must be mentally deficient.

Everyone, I apologize for crashing your splooge-in-pants party. No, seriously, I don't belong here.

Dude. What's up with that huge chip on your shoulder? Nobody said your opinions weren't valid. All we were saying was, the pics from the net, for whatever reason, were not correct due to color shift. I would tell you I agree with your color assessment, but I don't need to be attacked for agreeing with you. Grow up. And as for your pre-order jitters, (god forbid I make a suggestion to you here) just wait 'til you see SS on the shelves. If you like him, buy him. If not, wait for your fancy re-color. To make judgements of a figure you saw a few crappy pics of on the net is just plain stupid.

I dont post here much so I may be blown off as "another noob" but here is my take on the MP-03 situation-

I LOVE this mold. Its absolutely amazing. The original mold made me happier because it was more G1 accurate but this is astounding nonetheless.

The colors are disappointing but good enough for me. After seeing the G1 accurate photoshop, though, the actual colors are an absolute let down. That isn't to say that it doesnt look great but it obviously could have been so much more.

I see either a repaint or a desperate search for the "anime" version in my future.

Keep on staring at the real colors long enough and they'll grow on you. I almost dont even want him to be G1 accurate any more. I looked and the digibash and just went, Meh. I admit, the real colors are Alternatorlicious but that Jet mode is sweet in those colors.

So I didn't read through all the other posts, but it should be obvious this will get repainted. It's natural to do the funky reinterpretation first, because once the fans have the G1 faithful version, they won't want anything else. I think this is cool. Not necessarily the way I would have done it, but I'm down with something different. Looks good to me.

Apparently a G1-colored version will be made available to members of the Japanese "STARS" club... I'm sure some will make it to online retail, but unfortunately they'll probably be marked up a bit. You'd think they would have made it easier for fans to get that color scheme, but maybe they were afraid that people wouldn't have chosen the gray version at all if they offered them both equally. Or something, I dunno.

A lighter gray, like that used on Navy jets, would make it look better.
