Hearts of Steel: Megatron

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody! This is my next project and possible BotCon entry. A scratchbuilt HOS: Megatron based on Guido's concept drawing.

Here's a few WIP pics since I started him.

The first thing I did was make the torso.  I scaled all the dimmensions off of Guido's drawing with the intention of using 3" PVC pipe for the large wheels.  When all said and done, he's going to stand about 8.5" tall (about the same height as G2 Megs).  The hip and shoulder joints are from Lego Knights.

The next bit was to add stomach detail and the upper legs.  The head is just one I made to get the size and shape figured out.  The sculpt on it is not that great.

And the leg articulation.

The next bit was to build the lower legs.

The knees are bigger than what the drawing shows, but in order to have it look normal in Alt mode I opted for the larger knees.

And Alt mode up to this point.

This is the last bit of work I got finished.

Added the feet and the hip guards.  Also beefed up the thighs and added detail.

The feet are segmented and can move.  You can see it in the right foot.

And how the feet transform.  The toes slide into the foot and it will pin onto the back of the thighs in alt mode.

As of this weekend I had a little more than 100 Man-hours into him over the last 3 weeks.

Amazing. Simply amazing. Can't wait to see the spiked wheels.

YES

I had no idea anyone would be doing something from this this soon...I'm uber-excited

thats simply amazing, cant wait to see it finished :thumb

I've never heard of HoS before seeing this scratchbuild so I looked it up.  And I love the designs as much as War Within.  I had plans on maybe scratchbuilding Sentinel Prime (the Roman soldier-ish one) after I'm done with WW Shockwave but now I'm thinking either HoS Insecticons or Prime.  As I mentioned in the transtopia thread HoS Shockwave is badass.  Looks very complicated to scratchbuild though but I have confident you can pull it off.

Looking great Lobo. We're ganna have fun at Botcon man!!!

The only beef I have with him, and I have to say this, is that his head looks like crap on that perfect model your building.

Please tell me you plan to redo the head...
