What does old X-BoB58 think? :P

I didn't know about the JapanAsian continuity until I first got on the internet in high school and was looking for some pictures of my favorite transformers when I came across a picture of Micromaster Hot Rod, which I then became obsessed with and resultingly found out about post-actionmaster G1 from overseas.  Overall I felt then and still feel an overwhelming "meh" for most of it, but there are a few standouts.

i was the same way when i found out about beast wars II and neo cant say i know to much about it but im trying to learn when i got free time.

even if the older stuff isnt as pretty or flashy as the newer stuff it has more depth that this mush they put out recently but thats besides the point i geuss lol.

I only discovered there was additional G1 stuff in Japan when I bought Transformers the movie on DVD. It had the first episode of Headmaster on it.

Funnily enough it turns out some of the Asian stuff made it westward. Overlord got a European release under the G1 banner.

I found out in 1992 when I first watched Masterforce.

I think you should repost this isn the "it came from japan" forum, but...

1/ i didnt know overlord was a "husband and wife getsault"?  really?

2/ japanese tfs were probably popular as they were exclusive to Japan. many had that "anime mecha" look that western bots didnt always have. I think star sabre, jumping on the gundam bandwagon, was a real flag bearer of this style.

3/ Europe also got many Tfs not available in the USA. We got Uk/Europe only and Japan stuff too.

Also, the Japanese G1 continuity had a much longer shelf life, with regards to the shows and toys.  However, the Japanese Tf universe has always had a more "immature" or uniquely Japanese way of showing things, like some charcters being a bit zany or weird etc.

as a fan living in Japan, i can tell u that tfs are easier to get, and there are more exlusives here as far as i can tell. although i could be wrong. im also a bigger fan of most of takaras paint jobs than hasbros (with the exception of energon galvatyrons).

Well it seems like a lot of people don't go to the "It came from Japan" or "Pre-TF" forums...

What that is?

See?

um...I think it was around that time takara re-release StarScream came out.  I was told of Kicks-Hobby by a friend, walked in, got suckered (j/k) by C-Y into buying the accurate cartoon colored Starscream.  Same friend one day turned me onto TFans.com...  Then somebody here had made a post about how they were contacted to do a sketch of some truck for a possible Alt. Soundwave (sometime in sept. 2004 I believe).  That made me sign up and then all you Takara freaks had to ruin it for me and told me Optimus Prime got killed again...

Yeah, Giga (the white Powermaster engine) is the husband - he pilots the tank, and his wife, Mega (the black Powermater engine) pilots the jet. When I first learned about Overlord, "Tank Girl" came to mind.

i had always sorta known since i got the EU over lord and did some reserch a few years ago but i never seen any till i got into the world of fansubs about 2 or 3 years ago
