One of my recurring gripes.

Recommended Posts

After my review on Rodimus, I just gotta get this off my chest (again) in its own thread.

The issue is the goofy looking biggie front and tiny rear tires on some TF trucks. Some examples:

RID Optimus and Magnus

Armada super prime

Energon Rodimus

Energon Strongarm. Bigger in the rear, but still looks wierd on a Jeep.

Why? What purpose does this serve? I cant see anything in any of the toys' designs that require this. No semi truck on earth that I know of uses these tire sizes. The size difference isn't that big, but just enough to look a little strange. And here's the real clincher on this one. Listen up, Takara and Hasbro. It costs more to design something twice. Yep. You gotta have two, count em two molds for this. One mold is cheaper. Hell, I dont mind re-using a good looking wheel design on multiple toys. The fronts from Armada super prime, and E-Rodimus are good looking wheel/tire combos. Coulda used either one on Strongarm all the way around, would have saved money and looked a lot better than the lawn tractor looking ass nuggets they saddled him with. And it would have saved me the money time and effort kitbashing a fix for their screw up. (my version looks cool, btw.)

And what's with some of the colors of the tires on some TFs? Tires are black. They should always be black. The grey color used on Rodimus and some others I can handle. It doesnt look just horrible. The repainted rescue minicon team has tires and some other parts that are a dirty greyish brown color. Looks like dirty mop water. And it looks like pure ass against blue. And Armada Blurr, repaint hotshot and repaint strongarm all have friggin BLUE tires!!!! WTF?!?!

Even if this stuff doesnt bother any of you from an aesthetic point of view, you cant argue with it from the economics angle. If theyd take the money they saved from only designing a wheel twice and designed one more new mold, I think we'd be benefitting from two good things. And something else Ive noticed. Some people have said the mis-sized tires or wierd colors didnt bother them, yet I cant remember anyone ever ONCE saying they actually preferred it like this. So there ya go, Takara.

Truthfully, I don't mind it too much. I guess I would if the truck design was realistic, but none of the Armada or Energon trucks are based on real vehicles. To me, enlarged front tires look okay on Rodimus because he's more of a fantasy truck anyway.

I'm sure that Takara/Hasbro designs them this way to appeal more to the kids by making the trucks seem more cartoony and abstract. And that's probably the reason why some of the tires are wacky colors, too.

Personally the tires dont bother me, the size is fine, but what does bother me is the color. Tires are black, and always will be black and should be represented in the one color they come in, which is black.

Black is the color that they are, and black is the color they should be.

Sorry just watched Mojo Jojo on cartoon network.

But yeah, the tires should be black, and only black, the gray is okay, but the black is where its at.

Ok I gotta stop now.

I like the different colors, sizes, and designs. The more effort the put in, the better toys we get.

I Like them on Rodimus. He looks like one of those drag racing machines like that. On the RiD Trucks... eh.. it doesn't bother me too much.

To make them look good, which to me it does...

Now if they did this in the Alternator line for no reason....

I'd be pissed.

I don't mind different design patterns for tires. Who knows what shape or color tires will be "In the year two-thousaaaaaaaand!" -high pitched LaBamba voice... :tflaugh1

I agree with Lord_Galvatron though, don't mess with the Altenator line.

Actually I don't really care what size they are but I would really be willing to pay the extra money to get rubber tires. That small detail really makes the figure much nicer and seem to have much more quality.

I agree with Tortle on this. Besides if kids are attracted to futuristic vehicles with funky wheels, it's in Takbro's best intrest to make them as attractive as possible to that market. I'm sure it justifys whatever cost is involved. Pretty products sell and all that.

Either way, I could care less. Tires aren't the main thing I look at when I buy a Transformer. Used car maybe...TF, no.

Hey I'm all for that. I just think that enlarged front tires is just wierd is all. Now on Rodimus, I wouldn't like it any better, but if they'd enlarged the REAR tires, that'd give him a more hot rodded look, it would make more sense to me. But the effect that I see is like that grey bulldog on Tom and Jerry. Colossal up front, but spindly and puny out back. Guess Im outvoted, but venting frustrations is but one of the purposes here, right?
