Hobby Japan August 2006 MP-3 Starscream Article

Recommended Posts

It was just as visible on his legs IMO...

yes but leg mounted kibble is more of an american design asthetic. american robots tend to have large pelvises that are one piece while japanese robots tend to have small pelvises that are covered by metal skirts. mounting MP Screamer's jet kibble on his hips is more akin to the later design asthetic that the former. that tends to affect the personality of the toy and make it look more like it's based on the japanese version of G1 Screamer who had a completely different personality from his american counterpart.

Well if the hip kibble is really a make-or-break thing for you guys, then so be it.

again, it is NOT JUST THE HIP KIBBLE. it's how the kibble affects the overall personality of the toy. don't be so dense.

From what I remember, G1 Screamer's design (cartoon and toy) were the same. If the MP figure was going to be part of a cartoon series, assigning a character personality to MP-03, your argument would make make alot of sense. Since it's a stand-alone figure, I'd think the original design would be the prevailing influence. What part of G1 Prime's personality played a part in MP-01's design?

Anyway, NONE of this makes it any more/less of a Masterpiece.

dude transformers got alot of thier human like look in the cartoon thanks to gundam and the toys were designed in japan so transformers are just japanese robots in an american box kthx

Wow, a picture of three bipedal robots and they all have similarities. Who knew? How could I have been so blind?

My whole opinion this time was wrong.

:roll

Seriously man, that's weak.

It's just a picture, there's no proof of anything. It just shows us images that demonstrate both similarities and differences.

I know there are similarities, but the Gundam's are much curvier, slightly more organic and definitely much more slimline and less primitive looking.

That's not design I like and it's lack of it attracted me to Transformers.

Many traditional mecha also have also have more of those pronounced diagonal bits of kibble, such as on the Gundam's shoulders, and we can see on the Diaclone Optimus Prime design that his head originally included those.

The final version did not, and was all the better for it.

as for screamer if you dont like him fine but please STFU i dont want to read 10 pages on why were all wrong and you and you alone think its an alt and how you dont think its a cool as that last proto was (you see i just summed it all up in a few lines its that easy)

See, I stated that looking too much like traditional mech was something I didn't like.

You then used a picture to show how clearly wrong my opinion that they don't is.

Nowhere did you care to look at what I meant by that or accept that as my view, whether it make sense to you or not, you just show a desire to use "proof" to invalidate my opinion, make it "wrong" at the core so anything that comes from that is built on faulty logic.

blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.........

look dude stop being such a defencive f*** sheesh. look you posted somthing i pointed out my views and to sum it up i still dont think its of alt standard and i still think takara tomy is right to call it what ever they want now do you agree? no. well no loss at the end of the day im happy with what they done

and dont give me any of this "forum is to talk" crap we talked you would not shift nor would I (same goes for others) and then started giving me all this "dont make it personal" crap on thetf.net so it was YOU who basicly turned this into a flame war so maybe YOU should stop befor the topic is locked or worse ether way im taking the higher road and ending this spat now by not replying to what ever crap you come back at me with

and i agree forums are for the swaping of ideas also the disproving of them. now if your in the minority well all you have to do is back up your views you just skiped to the personal attack defence thus i give you the stfu treatment as your basicy not adding to the topic rather just wasting time

and dont give me any of this "forum is to talk" crap we talked you would not shift nor would I (same goes for others) and then started giving me all this "dont make it personal" crap on thetf.net

Dude, when you start posting postse that say nothing but "this is how it is, if you don't like it boohoo" that adds nothing to a conversation at all.

In fact the use or boohoo is a condescending one used to imply that the person you're speaking to is acting like a baby and sulking, when all I had been doing up until then was discussing my opinion of what makes a Masterpiece a Masterpiece.

That's personal; as was your accustation that I switched boards and "pretended" I didn't know I was discussing the same point with you elsewhere.

I was talking Transformers, you were acting like a little drama whore who couldn't handle the fact my opinion differed from yours and I would not accept your view as insdisputable fact.

Grow up.

i agree thiers nothing in the design that give off the G1 personality apart from the romour face swapping thing when you could swap it for one with a smerk. but ive not seen that on this proto yet so i cant stay if its thier or not.

IMO the only real way to put across personality in a toy is when posing it

If the MP figure was going to be part of a cartoon series, assigning a character personality to MP-03, your argument would make make alot of sense.

you do realize that the MP is suppose to be G1 Screamer, right? so technically, it is part of a cartoon series.

maybe "character personality" was the wrong term, maybe the accurate term would be "image". here, let me break it down:

the hip mounted kibble attracts attention to the fact that MP Screamer has a small pelvis covered by segmented armor, which is a standard design of most japanese robots. hence it invokes the image of a japanese robot and the japanese version of G1 Screamer's character. japanese G1 Screamer did not have the same personality as the american version, he was more-or-less similar to Armada Screamer.

with the first design, the pelvis was still small and covered by segmented armor but at least it looked like one solid piece. hence making it look more like an american design and invoking the american version of G1 Screamer's personality.

ok, joshlowe, blitz, you both really need to calm down, Ive read this entire thread, and honestly, blitz, josh is right, he made his veiws very clear to everyone else, and your the only one that attacked him directly. joshlowe, its a toy that everyone loves in some way shape or form. Irregaurdless of the waist and arm kibble, its still G1 Scream, not all the way, and I agree with you all the way on this, but you made your views clearer than most people ussually do. Hence why I agree with you, but just cause Blitz desides against you, and joshlowe against you blitz, dont make it an all out war on the boards, keep the crap off here so everyone can enjoy what they are here to enjoy. Now, back on topic. I just aked my girlfriend about the new mold and the old mold. I showed her the new mold before I did anything else, and asked her if she were a collector, which she would go for. She said that she personally liked the newer one. Then I told her that there were differences between the new mold and the old cartoon and toy models, so I showed her, and even an outsider, someone that more or less could care less about this, but deals with it for a fan(me, arent I lucky?) said that it was wrong to detract from the basic design of the original toy. Now come on. seriously, if you hate the kibble then just cut the Blot off, glue a new peice of plastic on it, paint it, and call it a day. Im obviously speaking of the bubbley crap on his arms. the tailfins are a bit harder to just do that with, but Im sure that it would be quite possible to figure something out with it.

Oh, and from observing everyone in this thread...there's only one poster that needs to "grow up", IMO

Just le observation

And MH is dead-on about 1) there's only been one Masterpiece design to go on and 2) toy companies are the only ones who get to dictate what its "Masterpiece" standards are anyway. :thumb

:tflaugh you're such an MH fanboy... this figure pales in comparisson to the original that we saw.  You can't have a definitive masterpiece figure that has nothing but the barest in common with the character it is to portray.

oh and while we may have only 1 transformer masterpiece, there are others... voltron for one.

Voltron is for wusses and lameos
