Hobby Japan August 2006 MP-3 Starscream Article

The idea of someone think this figure is basically an Alternator makes me raff heartily.

But in an ironic way, right? 'Cuz it's really not that funny.

In a way that only a guy that keeps a eHobby anime Astrotrain MISB to spite a fellow Tfan's member can.

:grr

ACKBAR'D

I think the first one was, but the second one resembles (as others have said) more traditional Japanese mech designs.

I'm not a traditional Japanese mech fan.

i understand what you're getting at. to me, the second version of the MP feels more like a japanese redesign rather than being based on the original G1 character. in Japan, G1 Screamer's personality was more akin to the Armada version so by giving the MP japanese design asthetics, it's almost like it's based on a completely different character. it doesn't feel like the american version of G1 Screamer, it feels more like the japanese version of G1 Screamer.

Uh, it IS being put out in the Japanese market and stuff...

well that the repaint as opp pointed out and the interviews with the designers saying what thier goals were and stuff *cant be bothered to find it* but im sure thiers a translation if you look back

but yeah i agree we only have 1 toy to use as a bench mark so i guess we wont realy know what makes an MP an MP till MP5 given 4 is just prime... again

dude transformers got alot of thier human like look in the cartoon thanks to gundam and the toys were designed in japan so transformers are just japanese robots in an american box kthx

Wow, a picture of three bipedal robots and they all have similarities. Who knew? How could I have been so blind?

My whole opinion this time was wrong.

:roll

Seriously man, that's weak.

It's just a picture, there's no proof of anything. It just shows us images that demonstrate both similarities and differences.

I know there are similarities, but the Gundam's are much curvier, slightly more organic and definitely much more slimline and less primitive looking.

That's not design I like and it's lack of it attracted me to Transformers.

Many traditional mecha also have also have more of those pronounced diagonal bits of kibble, such as on the Gundam's shoulders, and we can see on the Diaclone Optimus Prime design that his head originally included those.

The final version did not, and was all the better for it.

as for screamer if you dont like him fine but please STFU i dont want to read 10 pages on why were all wrong and you and you alone think its an alt and how you dont think its a cool as that last proto was (you see i just summed it all up in a few lines its that easy)

See, I stated that looking too much like traditional mech was something I didn't like.

You then used a picture to show how clearly wrong my opinion that they don't is.

Nowhere did you care to look at what I meant by that or accept that as my view, whether it make sense to you or not, you just show a desire to use "proof" to invalidate my opinion, make it "wrong" at the core so anything that comes from that is built on faulty logic.

And you've been doing that since I first posted.

You took every statement of my opinion to be me pronouncing fact and argued every belief of mine to show it was wrong.

THAT is why I have been repsonding in the same way.

If you don't like people acting a certain way, maybe you should look at how YOU act towards them first.

Think of it as karma. :thumb

In the end, there's one huge difference between you and I.

I've read this thread, I've spouted my opinion with conviction, thrown out some stuff as fact; I've read other's views expressed similarly and pressed them on it, some might say attacked them, and I've read their responses.

Did it change my mind?

Did I change theirs?

No, but it was never supposed to, that's not the purpose of discussion.

From reading those replies, I've understood exactly where they're coming from.

The more they were attacked so to speak, the more detail they went in to with regards their views.

What consfused or confounded me makes complete sense.

Agree or not, I understand and I respect it.

I can even understand the advantages or benefits of some of the changes I don't agrere with.

I've also learned which do the same and grow to repsect or at least try to understand other's views, those who converse with the sake of getting something out of a conversation.

And I've learned which just read anything that differs, as wrong or mindless fanboy crap that is invalidated by defult, who expect a conversation to lead to one side "winning" either through the loser's admission of fault or silence to the "correct" masses and assume everyone's here for the same reason.

You see pages of fanboy (or maybe just fanboy) arguing to prove their point and force it on the rest of the fandom.

I just asee a discussion.

A free and open exchange of ideas and opinions from people with a shared interest.

A learning experinece.

Uh, it IS being put out in the Japanese market and stuff...

which is why it may not appeal to some western collectors.

Just because it doesn't appeal to a certain group of collectors doesn't make it unworthy of the Masterpiece description though.
