Saddened by Binaltechs appearent demise

Recommended Posts

Boy with the all the alts coming out, I'm really disappointed that we aren't seeing more binaltech characters.  I can do without ricochet and rollbar, but Camshaft/Silverstreak looks great.  I would love to see one more (decepticon) mold of the S2000 so I can have one in robot mode and one car mode.

I'm definately worried that the line may be on it's way.  This maybe premature but the line definately is and has been in trouble.  The evidence is mounting.

It appears to me that the progression has been like this.  Lets make tons of versions of the same basic mold (smokescreen in 4 varients + streak is a great example).  Hey these aren't selling.  Lets just make on version of each toy (cancelled S2000).  We better jumpstart the line lets put them in robot mode (I actually think this is a really good idea.  It hurts shipping wise, but man the toys are so much more attractive. It's really hard to look at BT packaging and see how awesome they are.  If they weren't on display in a store window when I was in Japan, I would never have even noticed them in the first place) and add a plastic gilr figure (not sure if this is a good or bad idea, but I if helps the line sell in Japan, I'm all for it.).  Hey that didn't work, lets do a radio a show and make the plastic girl and robot make out (I'm pretty sure this is a bad idea, but I sure hope it isn't and this sells tons of toys...)

recap:

1) S2000 cancelled

2) The appearence of BT* line (not a bad sign on it's own but combined with other evidence it doesn't look good)

3) The appearence of kiss convoy (not a bad sign on it's own but combined with other evidence it doesn't look good)

4) lack of new characters anounced.  I remember waiting like this before, but never quite this long.  Last time, I remember waiting and we got a big blast of announcements. Hopefully this happens again.  Right now it looks like we are going months and months without a new toy.

Anyway, this is how it looks from the outside looking in.  We haven't heard a peep about mirage, camshaft/silverstreak, nemisis prime, rumble or a new S2000 mold.  Convince me I'm wrong (please)...

and kiss convoy isnt even going to be diecast last i heard.

This sucks. I said it months ago when they hadn't announced any new figs after Skids and Broadblast and before all the crap w/ the new TakaraTomy became official. I really want more BTs and like you said, this KISS crap, while hopefully sells a lot of toys, will probably be very bad for the franchise (come on, even the Japanese probably think this is stupid). Anyway, I really really want BT Mirage, and while it might happen sometime down the road, it ain't gonna happen anytime soon at all.

The demise of the BT line definitely saddens me greatly.

<_<

I'm not missing anything

'evidence' for the death of alts and BTs has been mounting since they were first released.  How many doom threads have there been in the last 2 years?

Sure, it looks bad for BT at the moment. but alts are still going strong.  I'm sure things will get bact to normal for binaltechs soon.

what really messed up the BT line was the merge with Takomy.

It's really too bad when you consider the amazing quality of the toys.  The wierdest thing is that you'd think this type of line would be HUGE in japan.  When I talk to people my age (~30) in the tech industry with disposable income in Japan who should be the target for this line, they haven't even heard of Transformers or I really have to jog their memories.  Were transformers not as popular there in the 80's as they were here?

I really hoped BT* would take off. It doesn't seem like it has.

If a PVC anime girl is what they think would help sell BTs in Japan, then the line is certainly doomed.

There must also be a ton of other to stuff to attract people's interest in Japan. Maybe Transformers are just not all that special over there?

If they get it going again, then TakaraTomy really should consider dropping the whole licensed cars only thing and branch out to different types of vehicles and different price points (yes, this has been said numerous times, but it is still a good idea).

If they drop the licensed cars they'll certainly loose my interest.  If you mean they should do other types of licensed vehicles, that would be OK depending on what they were, but I don't see why they would drop cars.  This would probably mean having to use multiple scales (not 1:24) and also would pose problems for me to some degree.  Lets put it this way, I'm not that excited for a sumarine that transforms into robot standing next to a car that's the same size in robot mode and I'm definatley not that excited about a huge submarine/robot.  A tank could be OK...  Construction vehicles that form a giant devastator!  That woudl be cool.  Remember, alternators are an homage to G1 line and sell significantly to adults who remember G1.    MP Jets and semis + alternator cars fits that concept well.  Their just may not be enough of us to support these awesome toys.  And we can be a fickle and incosistent bunch.
