Difference between MP Prime and 20th Ann. Prime?

Recommended Posts

I was lucky enough to pick up a MP1 when they first came out.

I followed all the articles on TFormers.com and LOVED all the info and prototype pics our fellow fans shared...

MP1 is clean and heavy with chrome plating all over.

I definatly prefer NO black carbon scorring on my Prime...

The grey gun is fine and the cardboard trailer is nice, but I never assembled it...

If you have the money (oh, he is worth every penny) go with MP1!

Screw Hasbro! Takara RULZ! well, you get the idea...

Aight Kats,

BBTS has MP-1 for pre-order for 109.99 or something thereabouts.  Has had it up for a short while now.  Check it out for details.

Maybe old news, but just helping out my fellow TFans.

Screw Ebay scalpers.

Later,

KT

Battle Damage > j00

:pfx

Also for the record it is not all over his body.  :roll For the most part it's added detail that gives prime actual character and makes you believe he's been warring with megatron all these years opposed to the 'Hey look at me I just stepped off the assembly line and have yet to actually be involved in a war" look.

The smaller stacks are debatable but the smaller ones haven't bothered me any. He looks good in any given pose and that' really all that matters IMO. :thumb

Seems like this place has them in stock now..

Tisinc99 MP-1

Too bad I didn't find this earlier in the week though; I just paid an extra $27 for one out of Japan :tfhuh

I don't like the battle damage. It's too stark - you have random parts of the toy that looks singed, and the parts that aren't look factory fresh. So it doesn't really look like he's been in battle, but rather, "I've been playing with fire!" - JMO.

And MP-1 looks like he's lived in a bubble his whole life- not a scratch. What's your point?

Whether you want to make it look brand new or battle-worn - whatever, my point is that, IMHO, 20th Anniv Prime's so-called battle damage isn't consistent across the toy and therefore doesn't totally succeed in making you believe that this toy is truly battle worn. The problem is that the paint decos is basically shiny-new with scorch marks appearing at certainly places across the toy. There are no degrees between, which makes it look unnatural. Had the machine actually been worn in battle and wear, then the paints should be dulled -- less shiny looking. There should be scuff marks and other signs of general wear throughout the toy.

Yes, MP01 does look shiny new, because he's supposed to - and to that end, the toy succeeds in accomplishing this look. 20th Anniv Prime on the other hand is supposed to look battle-worn, but to me, just looks shiny-new like MP01, only with random scorchmarks on certain spots. Having the toy look so shiny new with just a couple of scorch marks here and there doesn't create a convincing look of battle fatigue, but rather it just looks like he's a clean Prime who's been playing with matches.

Also, the cut off smoke-stacks look bad (IMHO) - if this is meant to be another sign of battle damage (kinda flukey that both stacks would be snapped at exactly the same point) then there should be scorch marks on the tips of smoke stacks which make it look like it's been seared off.

Look at the Optimus Prime statue from Palisades:

I'm no fan of statues, but looking at it from a pure paint-apps POV, you can see that Palisades has created a battle-worn paint scheme for Optimus Prime by painting him in dulled colours and also painting various other damage marks, such as scratches and scuffs etc., throughout the surface.

20th Anniv. OP should have a paint app similar to this in order to create a more convincing image of battle fatigue.

MP-01 doesn't have any battle damage painted on him because he's not intended to look battle damage, so that's fine. Convoy is supposed to look undamaged, so to that extent he succeeds just fine.

Having a toy that looks brand shiny new with little splashes of "damage" here and there just reeks of a half-arsed effort. As Jazz says, "Do it in style or don't bother doing it!"

I found about seven 20th anniv. Ops yesterday at a Super Walmart in Thomson, GA and for some reason they were still priced at $63.00. This toy has been sitting in that Walmart for about three years and they are still regular price.

it's better than going up in price, no?

20th Prime also has cut marks molded in on several places. I works more than fine for me. Anyway...I think it's to reflect more "I'm a robot who tends to get dirty" and not battle damage as such, EXCEPT for the one spot on his abs where Megatron poked him with a big stick.

And yes, short stacks are lame.
