Alternator Megatron????

Now, keep in mind that the Alt. line has, with *every* release, been a name-brand-whoring line, and I have a feeling that Hasbro profits from each joint venture, as they are essentially selling commercials to a very impressionable target market.[snip]

Hasbro pays GM to make cars that look like GM models, not the reverse.  You can argue that it's good for to get toy cars made, but it's better for Hasbro to sell them.  Money would similarly flow from Hasbro to GE to do a tank or from Hasbro to Brad Pitt if they made a Brad Pitt action figure.  That's how licensing typically works.  It's very rare for the property to pay the company that's going to make income the product.

This is kind of a fun one to think about.  In theory the dolars for the movie and toys would look like this:

TFLA movie  $-> to Hasbro to make the movie

Hasbro $-> GM to make car toys

GM $-> TFLA movie to use GM cars

I'm sure this deal was much more complicated with "movie" owning the rights to the cars used in it as well and Hasbro and the "movie" negotiating rights to the use of the Transformers property in the movie and making the movie toys together (and if there are any limitations on what other toys hasbro can make for a certain time etc).  But fun to think of none the less.

In the good old days, I think it would have been.  Cool, you make the movie, we'll make the toys and what ever automakers we happen to use will continue to make the cars, everyone is happy to be making money.  Now brand it king.

Ferchristsake Ford lobbied congress hard to keep SUV's catagorized as a passenger vehicle and not a light truck!

Are you sure? Because there's a ton of safety standards that SUV makers *don't* have to meet since they're classified as light trucks.

OT but: Yeah, there's no way ford lobbied anyone to make SUV's "cars".  Their are a ton of reasons why not:

Saftey requirements

Tariffs on imported of trucks (big reason the Big 3 still can compete)

Gas mileage messurements/requirements

Ford would probably like to classify the V8 mustang as a truck :-)

Someone just posted this at Don Murphy's site for god knows what reason, but the robot mode really reminded me of this one in a few ways.

If nothing else, it certainly shows the general look has been considered before.

Is that a Camcorder? Maybe Laserbeak came to be from that.

Of course the robot mode reminded you of this one... it's G2 Megatron.

This is not a hoax.

Whether it will see the light of day is another matter entirely.

Aaaaaaaand  you say this with such resolute conviction because...?

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii could ask you the same

Someone who used to work at Hasbro (Kyde) posted on the AllSpark that it is a preliminary color sheet.  But he also said not to read too much into it.

AKA might never see the light of day.  Which would be one of the greatest tragedies man has ever known.

Dun Dun DUUN!

Well yeah.

But the mods make him look much closer to this version, at least in bot mode, and if this was the next step in his evolution, as the writing claims, it's not hard to imagine that they've kept with it and refined it into this.

However, as Madhammer mentioned the 1/24 scale 40 cm height is pure speculation.  My bet is that he's closer to 1/48th scale and the same size as the rest of the Alts, which is probably why his transformation scheme doesn't appear particuarly complex.

First, there is no "IF" on The Original Posting, where the 1:24 and 40cm numbers are coming from. There is only "AT 1/24 IT'S ABOUT 40 CM TALL" and something in Chinese. I see no "If" wording there in any way, shape or form, but I don't read Chinese either.

Considering that the "1/24 40cm" values aren't part of the actual color sheet, and there are no supporting pics to convince me otherwise, I don't consider them particularly valid.

If this guy is an Alt, I still bet that he'll come in at the $20 price point.

If he's going to be released as a companion piece to MP Starscream, he'll undoubtedly be larger - probably the same size as Starscream and MP Prime, neither of which utilizes a common modeling scale.
