Bay: Don't Believe Everything You Read

The only time anyone will be justified in gettign upset, is if when they finally reveal character designs to be used in the movie.  If those suck, then all hope is lost for this movie.

I would think that a sucky script would be worse, personally.

Have you ever seen a real semi-truck?  Can you imagine how goofy Optimus Prime would look if they go for total realism?

Great visuals can save a movie, look at last summer's War of the Worlds movie.   I feel dumb for having seen it, but I can't deny that the special effects were amazing.

Why would they go for anything less than total realism in a live-action movie?

Of course I have. But I don't get your point. It's not a cartoon, and anything less than photorealism is not going to work. If they're going to be "in disguise" then they need to be convincingly so.

indeed, they threw away mass-shifting because of reality.

Heck, to me this is what I've been wanting to see for years! Real live Transformers transforming from real life vehicles! Are you kidding? That's friggin awesome.

Compromises have to made in order to keep the Transformers from looking silly.  I think that the other characters will fare better, but there is no way that Optimus Prime will good in robot mode, as an actual semi-truck

Hey, it's part of the deal. They've got to make it work. A semi truck with two giant blue legs sticking out the back is going to be a bit of a giveaway IMO.

I hope you like your Optimus Prime with skinny legs, then, because that's what will happen with total realism.  Actually, he might even make sense as a comletely realistic semi. There really isn't much there to make legs out of.

Considering that there will be no mass shifting in the movie, it is likely that the robot modes will be comprised of part from the entire alt-mode.  There are only so many ways to do a transformation.  Optimus Prime will probably transform in the way that everyone is most familiar with.
