Okay - X-BoB and NATO are right. They have provided two canonical sources to back their arguments, so that's pretty damn conclusive. So until later canon retcons it otherwise, mass-shifting is the answer.

The End.

Didn't you read those posts? The sources didn't point either way to that. In fact, it was neutral.

Why do people care about this. Its hardly going to change your attitude to the series

Actually, it does for me.

I always thought that TFs were these alien robot life-forms that look and act like other aliens would(or have believed to look and act), and that have highly advanced technology. Of course I'd argue aginst the opinions that they're "simple" in design, not able to reproduce without building each other manually, not able to construct or manipulate machines smaller than human cells, or even be genuine "life forms" at all by your standards.

If all of what you guys are saying is true, then these super-cool TFs are nothing more than simple "robots" that don't truely think and feel, they use half-assed ways of doing everything(like hiding the majority of their mass in subspace... seriously, WTF?), and are nothing more than what humans could build in about 300-500 years. Ick.

But subspace is mentioned in the BT stories, thus making it canon, just not in this contex

Go on...

That's actually a pretty good use for it... though I still don't like Alts/BTs because of their proportions(which is an entirely different subject, but meh)

dude, tf's are not just robots, they're incorporal beings made of pure energy that were created by a god-like entity. they may inhabit mechanical bodies but that's not their true forms.

That don't explain how they look similar from body to body if they're actually just the sparks. Why does Rattrap have the same face originally and as a Transmetal? Why does the Cybertron Defense team have the same faces/color as the original 3?

It'd at least be preset in the actual spark to look a cirtain way... hence how TFs can "age" like Cheetor did, and how some look old because of "wrinkles" and also grow facial hair.

for once I agree with you, Sparks are more akin to souls, the TF still needs the Lasercore and Datatrax to be consious.

Hey I've been into transformers since I was 12, I had avivid imagination then and now at 33, what's so hard to belive about alien tech that we wouldn't know anything about anyway. some people are always trying to make fiction real or try to find a way to make it happen in real life. it's a cartoon people,  enjoy it.

Someone AGREED with me? With ME?!?

just blame it on the uncreativity of the toy designers, or maybe they want those toys to be easily recognizible as upgrades of previous toys.

Sparks are stupid, Transformers should just be machines.

and yes, I'm serious.

and while we're at it, let's make them human piloted so they're indistinguishible from every other giant robot toyline on the market.
