How to get the smoke smell out?

Recommended Posts

If you receive a toy that stinks, then it's NOT BLOODY MINT.

Yes I agree with that, but he said it was in mint condition so I didn't think about that.also he said smell had nothing to do with it being mint

Well, next time you sell him a mint toy, rub it in dogBlot... see how good he feels about his stinky mint toy.

I'm a non-smoker.  I don't think that it's become illegal to smoke in your own house anywhere, but inside establishments - 12 states have brought that in so far.  I can't wait till Philly does it.  I really can't stand the smell, i can't stand coming home smelling like it, and I can't stand spooning my girlfriend with her smoky-stinky hair in my face.  (she doesn't smoke, mind you)

Not to mention it KILLS you.  i've got several friends that smoke, and I look at them and say damn...it's gonna suck when you die 20 - 30 years before I do.

My mom's pop died before I was born, in the mid 70s... my mom's mom died just 2 years ago.  Guess which one smoked.

If you're a smoker and offended by this, I'm sorry.  And yes there are other things out there that can hurt and kill you like booze, but you can sit in a bar with other people drinking and not drink yourself.  Comparing booze in a bar to smokes is like drinkers sticking a funnel in your mouth and forcing you to drink what they're drinking...actually when you think about it, it's more like forcing you to drink their backwash, as the smoke you inhale already went through their body and out again....  Drunk misbehavior notwithstanding, you really can't compare the two.  And I for one would raise hell if I bought a mint toy and it stunk like smoke.

Very well stated and very truthful IMO. There is as you said just no comparison to those who drink compared to those who smoke. One can drink responsibly and if smart not let it effect him/her in a bad way where as you really can't smoke responsibly. I have many friends who enjoy getting together for a drink, and though I'm a non drinker it sure beats the hell out of being around a bunch of chain smoking people. Here's why based on personel experience. The first time I moved out on my own I ended up in a basement suite right above a chain smoking dad and his kid. Wouldn't have been too bad if the entrance wasn't just an exposed stairwell to the basement. Weeks wouldn't be too bad however when weekends rolled around all the buddies would show up and sit in the upper living room and chain smoke for basically the entire night. I survived this for a year and then left. Even with a bedroom door closed it sucks to wake up short of breath and have your eyes burning. Also it wasn't long before people at work were under the impresion I was a smoker. No doutb because every piece of clothing I owned got repeatedly doused in smoke. I don't care what anybody says in this argument I know for fact that Blot gets absorbed into everything and it's perhaps one of the grossest smells ever. (For those of us who can still smell)

Also around this time I was again getting into collecting transformers and though I didn't really have many I displayed them for the most part of that year. This included reissue Ultra Magnus, Armada Jetfire, and Rid Magnus. I use these as an example because there mostly white and in time smoke literally asorbs the toy yellowing it horribly. I know because of some Ebay toys I bought a while back. Anyways it takes a good many years IMO of exposed smoke to ruin a toy. My TFs escaped with pretty much no yellowing in the time I was there. :thumb Something though that goes back pretty much to the days of Beastwars/Rid woould however be pretty much garbage by now in the home of a heavy smoker.

For those who are rolling there eyes here's what I'm talking about.

Sorry not not the best camera work but even I can tell which toy came from where.

A MASK car I got through Ebay a long while ago. The car basically splits into two components. The sides pull off and push together to form oone while the middle of the car forms another. Got it through two seperate sellers. Pretty obvious IMO which one of them smoked.

That all said I don't hold any harsh feelings or grudges to the sellers. I know it would have been nice to know this ahead of time but as a buyer I guess it's our responsibility to also ask. At least now I know. :thumb

Ok so I got them in the mail.

The guy said they were mint, but when I opened the package they had a horrible cigarete smoke smell.I sprayed some 409 on a shop towel and wiped them down, then sprayed them with lysol. The smell was weakened but still there.how do I get the rest of it out?

The worst I've dealt with was a G.I. Joe vehicle that I got on ebay. It had the "been in someone's musty basement" odor to it.  I first had the vehicle sit in a bucket of Lysol floor cleaner and water. It helped a little bit, but the odor was still there.  I then tried the vinegar in water.  Again, the odor seemed to diminish further, but a little bit of it is still there.

I might try that baking soda method, though.  It sounds good.

I'm glad that as a state, Washington has finally banned all public smoking (expect in tribal casinos).

Now only if the Feds can do something about it!

BTW, did you know the cigarettes is one of the only products NOT to be tested by the FDA?  The industry from day 1 knew that their product kills.

well obviously the cigarette industry knows it's products kill, but they arn't alone.  alchohol (yea i can't spell, so sue me) kills plenty.... how about cars?  i think they have a pretty large record of killing people.  well realy, theres a whole big bunch of stuff that kill people, hell, fast food kills people everyday.  point is it's not the companies responsibility (nor is it the government's) to tell people what they can or cannot do with their health and their body.  why is the concept of personal freedom such a hard one to grasp?  instead of taxing cigarettes like there's no tommorow, they should be taxing everything else, singling out smokers is blatant discrimination.

If that were true, howcome the tobacoo industry is not exploiting this?... I call BULLSIT on that.

uhm, because nobody will beleive them?  people have been screaming this for YEARS but it's overclouded due to the popularity of this whole anti-tobacco craze.  i've heard this before, many times, and quoted bullBlot because it's a media accesible to most people, esp when you can rent it from your local video store.  i will, however, do some research via the internet and attempt to find the official statements.

Well here in WA. the people voted and it passed!  I believe if a pub/restaurant/bar gets fined more than 3 times they lose their liquore license.

Well now the smokers here can go to tribal casinos or stay home.  With that being said I go to more bars now with friends.  Actually it was reported here (Seattle Times I believe) that business lost some business in the beginning but got more business because of it.

i still stand by my opinion, that it's a form of discrimination.  it's just as bad as saying you can't come here if you got blue hair.  sure, they can go home and change their hair color back, but wtf, why can't they be themselves?  if a bar owner chooses to allow smoking, and you don't like smoking, then don't go to that bar.  plain and simple.  same thing goes for the bar owner that doesn't allow smoking, if you smoke, don't go to that bar.  why is it that people CANNOT compromise and HAVE to have it their way or no way????

My mom is one the people who keeps that industry going.  Before my son was born I had a standing rule with her, that if I ever came to visit she had to take herself outside and smoke or else I would not visit her so she oblidged.

Everytime I got back home though I still had to take a shower first thing.  Thats smell gets into everything.  My wife and I learned the hard way after a few times.  The smell is on your body and hair and it goes right into your bed sheets.

I work with a guy that smokes and he stinks because of it.  Worst of all is his smokers hack! you know the one where they go cough..cough..(try to hold it in)cough...(oh crap, I can't hold it) COUGHHACK-UGH-COUGH-HACK-COUGH-HACK HACK-COUGH followed by a "whew...".  When he goes on his smoke breaks I've told him to stay out there for an extra 5 min. to air out, he doesn't, he comes right back in reaking of that crap, now I'm looking for the little things to help him along in way of life...(yes I'm his manager)

well, it's good your mom does that for you.  i wouldn't make mom or my mother in law stop smoking at their own house, but when they came to visit us they had to do their smoking either before they got there or walked down the stairs to smoke outside.  mom's quite though, thankfully, and she's realized that getting around is much easier.  she doesn't cough no where near as much as she did when she was smoking.  took her some time to adjust to the new taste of things tho, and to breathing fresh air, lol.  now i just wish my mother-in-law would stop.  she's trying but it so hard on her because everybody she knows smokes, and she's the kind of person that won't tell anybody they can't do stuff.

Its funny when we as an office go out to lunch and we walk.  The dude sounds like he ran a mile and we only walked a block.

lol, sounds like me, but i don't smoke i just wiegh alot :-P

also...IBL

same here >_> ................... <_<.........

^

Are Provence here in Canahdah had a full public smoking ban in all public places including all resteraunts and places of work. Best thing to happen in a long time IMO. :thumb

Loves how intellegent a crowd of smoking workers look crowded together smoking in the dead of winter over lunch break. :roll

well as a smoker i cant say much.... and like i said before i try to be respectful of nonsmokers......i can see where all the non smokers are coming from......my only question is does anyone remember that this is a free country? (USA) i know my risks each time i light a cigarette and i have always known...yes they are bad for me and yes they may kill me.....but like i always say...eat right exorcise die anyway.....even if i didnt smoke i would die is this not true?...ok maybe im just taking off some of the years of somebody having to wipe my @$$ and feed me with a little spoon....those are years im not looking forward too.........

like i stated before...i try hard not to smoke around people who dont smoke...and if my smell bothers you sorry...get over it..... me personaly i didnt know plastic absorbed smoke smell until recently...as i stated before...but i did know it caused yellowing and other messed up stuff.....on the same note though my collection is nowhere near where i smoke ciggerettes so i dont worry about it...but i also live in a house full of smokers so there is not much i can do....i also respect that people do not like the smell of stale smoke...even i dont like it myself, and i smoke.... but on the same note, like it was mentioned before most of us smokers cannot smell the smell, or any other smell like non smokers can, so yes your right the toys were not mint, but on the same note he may not have realised that they were stinky ..... if the toys came from the same person i believe they did, i had the same problem....but i didnt get mad and blame him for them being messed up....but now we should know to inform someone when they make a trade that we smoke or not, just for this reason ... i can respect that personaly... and i just hope others can too

and im sorry if i offended anyone......and i want every one to know i meant no offense nor took any anywhere in this thread and again id like to thank you all for teaching me stuffs...lights up a ciggerette mmmmmmmm cancer

sage...now we are going from bad to just as bad...but not cig smoke.....i have alot of indian in my blood and that stuff is always being burnt in my house...i dont mind it but alot of people dislike it alot

well, it's good your mom does that for you.  i wouldn't make mom or my mother in law stop smoking at their own house, but when they came to visit us they had to do their smoking either before they got there or walked down the stairs to smoke outside.  mom's quite though, thankfully, and she's realized that getting around is much easier.  she doesn't cough no where near as much as she did when she was smoking.

I didn't make my mom quite smoking, just had her stop smoking inside the house when we came to visit.  We would go outside and talk if needed.

Now that this topic has come up I'm gonna have to find some of my old toys from her to see/smell the difference.

New toy smell >Smoked toy smell.  :puke

Not trying to start up with anyone it's just that I can't tolerate the smell of nicotine at all. Just opened my latest in mail package and though the boxes wern't half bad the toys themselves left me coughing. Aside from the smell nothing looks yellowed so that's good. As of now I have them all standing in front of my open bedroom window. Should help a bit but I think I may need to give the lysol a try. Recomended?
