Megatron and Prime classics?

Perhaps.  I like Prime, always have, always will. But I have to admit that he is a bit long in the tooth now.  Maybe this new one will be the final Prime, maybe.  It would be nice to see a new leader at least, maybe introducing a new leader would give the TF ideas a new boost and a new look to appeal to kids, which Hasbro does say it tries to do.  As long as a new leader isn't the kind of character that makes you want to kill.  *Horrible image of a leader who speaks cute, looks cute and raps while stating messages like 'the world is good, the world is kind, let's all hold hands'  The horror...*

I think we feel like this only because every time Prime shows up, he's a different guy. If it were one continuous Prime We'd probably be more cool with that.

I feel this way because every Prime is essentially the same. If he were different, that'd be one thing. Look at Megatron -- he's always got a completely different design, and that's cool because the toy designers can just come up with whatever they want. But Optimus Prime, for whatever reason, has to be red and blue and have a scarf over his mouth (oh and he needs the baseball helmet w/ headphones). Every. Frickin. Time.

You forgot Energon Optimus Prime where he has a radar dish on his head. So that's different.

Why are ppl HERE of all places calling Hot Rod "Rodimus Major"?

Because he is not Rodimus Prime if Prime is still alive

Dude, his name is Hot Rod when Prime is alive...

If you're going to be calling a Truck "Hot Rod" there is something very much wrong with you

He was a car in the movie.

yeah, Artimus. GOSH!

Meh... I never thought I'd say this, but I'm starting to get tired of seeing the same G1 rehashes over and over again, and I no longer find myself excited by the Nth incarnations of Megatron or Prime.  Maybe when some of the other molds start to surface I'll change my tune, but right now I'm just not feeling it.  I've collected pretty much all the G1 throwbacks from the last three series, and at this point I feel like the ones we've got are pretty sufficient.  I mean, how many Starscreams and Hotrods do we really need?  Now we're getting a whole line of them?

Having said that, I'm a HUGE fan of G1, and I would've been slobbering all over myself to get this news back in the Armada-era, but lately I find myself caring more about Masterpieces, Alts, Hybrids, and Reissues, which leaves little room for the rest of the filler.

So far from what I've seen of these pics, they both have way to much kibble which has apparently become acceptable.  As far as Megatron being a gun or tank, seriously people, I like him both ways, I actually liked the G2 version, and he had enough of the trademarks(i.e. head, cannon), the only problem is they've never made a toy of Megatron as a gun that had a good robot mode, I'm still hoping for a Masterpiece Megatron sometime in the not incredibly distant future.  By the way, I'm a HUGE G1 fan.  I am however, up for a new leader(s), stop recycling the same name, do something diffrent, then who cares what they look like, at least they'll be original.  I think thats what G1 fans hate the most, when the name of a great charachter or likeness from the original is recycled and turned into something that looks nothing like its forefather.

So not exactly on the posted topic, but on topic to what people are actually discussing; does GI Joe have this same problem w/ Duke and I guess Cobra Commander, ie their lead characters?

They have been around 40+ yrs and have had many many new characters introduced, but have always (to my knowledge) kept Duke as the leader and basically made him look the same too. Do people think that newer Primes should have no resemblence to G1 Prime or be done away w/ completely?

We had a break when TFs were basically over (G2 barely counts) and then we got BW and BM w/ an entirely different character in the leader role. I just wonder if other long duration lines like GI Joe have had these problems and how they dealt w/ them.

Anyone know? Tman, I know you collect the new GI Joes as well as TFs, any input?

Infact, I'm surprised these aren't movie merchandise.

My impression of Bay's comments regarding the design of the movie characters is that they're going to be a lot less G1-esque "man-in-a-suit" looking than people are expecting.

I wasn't under the impression that those GI Joe characters existed prior to the 80's toys/cartoon.

Really? I had my doubts about Cobra Commander, but I was pretty sure that Duke has been around for awhile. Either way, those characters have been around for the same 20+ yrs as TFs, so the questions still apply. Anyone know?
