I like RiD and everything (as an alternate universe continuity) but "Magnus" is lame IMO. Just because we all played "White Prime" with our Ultra Magnus toys when we were kids doesn't mean it'd make a cool retcon.

If you guys are calling OP and Mags being brothers in RiD a retcon...I disagree.  It was an original show with original toys.  There's no retcon to be done.

I thought it was cool, as it was a neat tribute to the toy and because it was an original idea that nobody had ever done with Ultra Magnus before. And besides, it didn't last very long, so it was okay. If they'd allowed UM to run around armourless for the whole series, then I would be miffed. But they didn't, so that's okay.

 

If cartoon Galvatron had only been an insane wanker for just one ep or a multi-parter thing like just within FFoD - but was sane for the rest of the series, I may not hate Season 3 as much as I do now. I find crap like that far more irritable than a nekkid Magnus.

He was never nekkid in any G1 medium until the DW comic. I prefer Marvel comic Magnus over cartoon Magnus. While cartoon Magnus was never a particularly bad character, G1 comic Magnus had cooler adventures and didn't have to baby sit emo-Rodimus Prime. Mind you, comic Magnus was constantly having nine colours of Blot beaten out of him, but that's not too surprising considering the near godlike power that Marvel comic Galvatron had.

No. That would constitute an infringement of copyright. ;D I recommend finding another fan with a collection and reading the copies, or hunt down the back issues yourself.

I believe they are (or are being) collected into trade paperbacks.

I always figured, that if he was anything other than Ultra Magnus, he was Dion. Alpha Trion got bored after rebuilding Prime and messed around with his trailer.

 

 

 

But, as has been said, any potential story retcons about a repaint of a powered up figure from Diaclone are lame.

Apparently we were going to learn why Magnus has to wear the battle armour in War Within Dark Ages, alas it is no more...

I don't care what the Dreamwave comic said.  I don't care what Diaclone or Takara said.  Ultra Magnus is what we know from the movie, the cartoon series, and the Marvel comics. That is all.  He is not a Prime clone covered in battle armor.
