Repro Parts and Legality

Recommended Posts

I had this thought the other day. Tell me whether or not this is a good idea:

I've noticed a lot of eBay auctions has G1 Soundwave without the cassette door, but everything else works and stuff.

Then I look at G1 Soundblaster. The only notable difference between the two is the colour, the tape door, and the two notches to accomodate the new cassette door so that it opens. So,

What if I mass produce the new cassette door and sell it like Repro Parts? Sure, you will have to paint parts of the broken G1 Soundwave black, and cut the two notches so that the door will fit/work, but isn't it better than paying $70 and up just for a toy that's basically the same?

Thoughts?

people would buy it

Well since you're leaving some of the work left to the end user, I would assume that it is not piracy.

I could take a block of plastic and mold/sculp G1 Optimus Primes fist.  HasTak is not gonna sue the manufacture of that block of plastic.

So ask Ken from reproparts.com.

LOL, not bored per se, but I was just thinking that there's no real difference between G1 Soundblaster and G1 Soundwave except for those 3 things I've mentioned, plus the price. A broken G1 Soundwave is affordable, and since most of them have broken tape doors, why not recycle them AND upgrading them at the same time, while giving TFans who don't have much money a chance to take part in a piece of TF history by making it affordable.

Good Hustle.

It's all good. I think if there's a way to spread the hobby within our ability, then it just mean that the Transformers toy line will survive to another generation (From your sig, Tom, I see you get what I mean.)

I will say this....ARRRRRGGGGG!!!!

Honestly I can definitely see that knockoff's are totally illegal, as interesting as they can be.

But parts repro's, especially ones used to make custom pieces are not something that the industry is going to produce and its not keeping anyone really from say buying that Wheeljack remake, when you can buy a new windshield and a junker for less somewhere else?  Just like repro sticker kits.

But they sometimes do.

ARRRRRRRGGGGG!!!!!!

I made a tape door out of a CD case, and it just sits there holding a buzzsaw in, while sitting on my desk at work.  ARRRRG, if someone shang-highes it they'll be in for a surprise when the door DOESN'T OPEN!!!  (BA BAAA BAAAAAAAA)

Arg!

ive thought about repros and tried contacting ken about buying the molds since he cant really continue but no word. id like to make my own if i could but havent had time to research and start
