Can't say I hated Wheelie and Daniel though I did not like them much.

Wheelie had potential but everyone has that. For him it did not work as he was made annoying and the toy sucked (I do like the car mode).

It is often the writers to make a character bad and I can hardly blame the character itself for that. Daniel was quite annoying in Headmasters but it was the writers that put him in every episode.  :wtf

Besides, hate leads to anger, anger leads to fear and fear leads to the Dark Side. Or something like that.  :tftongue

Heck I do not even hate the writers of Headmasters for turning a great show into whatever they made. I mean by Japanese standards it is probably a decent/good show and that was their intent.

And finally, I think Hasbro was right about making Armada/Energon/Cybetron a trilogy. Some of the best movie series are trilogies. The Godfather, Terminator, Back To The Future.

In my eyes Takara scewed up by changing the story into a new beginning. They should have saved that for the post movie series.

Hope that title makes sense because I did not know what else to call this topic. Anywhoo , let me try to explain.

I was recently browsing to a Spider-Man comic which had a story with Venom. It turned out that Eddie Brock has cancer and was dying which is a reason why the symbiont bonded with him.

However, the original origin story never mentioned that. It was just Eddie who lost his job due to Peter Paker who as Spider-Man also rejected the symbiont and they bonded to become Venom. This new addition seemed as it was tacked on a bit and I did not like it.

Retcon is unfortunately an overused tool. in the hands of skilled writers, it's a wonderufl way to add to a character, or to fix past mistakes. however, it's oftentimes used simply because writers want to write the stories they want, rather than staying within the character they're writing.

i'll use a recent retcon in Spider-Man(Simply because it's IMO the best example ever) to illustrate my point. It will mostly be in spoiler'd form because the retcon happened this year.

It's about Black Cat. her origins are pretty well defined. She put on the costume and began stealing because it excited her, etc.

here's the retcon:

now, as it turns out, she was raped by her boyfriend in college and became Black Cat because she feels safer that way.

that one just pisses me off. It's pointless. it's unneeded. there was no reason to do that. not only that, but using Transufomah! as a plot device is even worse!

nah not just a dub. they buggered the good japanese plot and made it lame. Just so they could have unicron... stupid.

They didn't do ANYTHING to the Japanese plot. They didn't do ANYTHING to GF. The two shows just have the exact same animated stuff, that's all. Cybertron was planned months before GF's plot... that's a fact. Quit comparing it to dubs.

Besides, hate leads to anger, anger leads to fear and fear leads to the Dark Side. Or something like that.  bumblebeetounge.gif

That is exactly what I am talking about. Writers feel the need to change an earlier story by adding something to it or changing it.

I had stopped reading the Spider-Man comics when Aunt May was brought back so I do not know how that was done. I still have the comic in which she passed away. It really moved me to tears. Bringing her back really ruins this fine moment in comic history.

I know she was/is important to Peter but she is gone. If writers are going to do that all the time then the death of a character is not going to mean anything because you know they will bring him/her back.
