That is one of my "holy grails" as far as Transformers collecting goes.

They can threaten legal action. But the unfortunate thing is that there is no copyright restriction overseas for that kind of thing.

Why do you think all the things that aren't supposed to be online are on Russian websites?

:tflaugh

There are copyright restrictions in other countries, but some countries aren't as effectual in enforcing international copyright laws.

Transformers and all respective likenesses are intellectual property of HasTak, so they can most certainly elicit people to take images down or change URL names if they want to. Remember when it was really easy to download scans of the Marvel TF comics before they started reprinting them? And you may remember when BWTF.com was beastwars.net.

As for Takara's action, I'm not going to make any further public comment on this issue.

In russia you CANNOT copyright anything digital, all digital media is in essence a free for all be it music, film, pictures or anything and there is sweet FA that any other countries corporations can do about it.

oh and legally takara cant do crap if I take pics of my own toys and put on the net, same as mercedes cant stop me taking pictures of my car and doing the same. They can try but if you stand your ground they will fail.

My point exactly. They may threaten, but anyone with common sense would know better. It would take too much effort on their part to even begin trying to make you take some pics down. I think someone is just trying to sound important.

All I have done in this thread is briefly describe what happened between Transfans and Takara at BotCon JP 2000 and some of the subsequent events and ramifications which have since occured. I have chosen to limit what I say in this thread, because as I have already explained - I have been contacted by the creator of the AI PVC who insisted that I remove the online images. The Transformers and all respective likenesses are property of HasTak.

HasTak are able to internationally enforce copyright laws via InterPol. Also, I live in Australia, not Russia. We do have enforced copyright laws here. Also, aside from the legality, there is also a matter of courtesy -- if an owner of a copyright trademark asks you to remove an image, it's just basic manners to comply. After all, it is their intellectual property, not yours.

We have seen lots of TF sites shut down in recent years with the current resurgence in G1 popularity -- Marvel Comic TF scan sites have been shut down, beastwars.net changed its domain name to bwtf.com, other domains like tfmultiverse.com etc. have also changed their domain names - presumably under the behest of HasTak.

Anyway, this thread is supposed to be about the AI PVC, and we're starting to digress...

Oh... you don't know about the ugly debacle that was BotCon Japan 2000 - the last of the Japanese BotCons... it's a bad story that created a rift between Takara and Transfans. Takara has since tried to make amends with the fandom by trying to be more inclusive towards the fans, such as getting Ichikawa Hirofumi aboard -- Ichikawa being one of the fans that Takara majorly scorched at the con - in fact, it was Takara's treatment of Ichikawa that sparked a fandomwide backlash against Takara... not pretty, but I think Takara has rebuilt burnt bridges, so let's just get over it and move on...

And no, I don't have one. A friend of mine has one, and I borrowed his to review it.

:schin  :wtf

Goki - You cannot compare sites that host scans of comics being taken down and photographs of a toy.

Comic scans allow people to read comics without having paid for them.

That is why they came down, it was directly affecting profits.

However, if someone took a photgraph of their comic collection laid out on the floor, that is them displaying their personal collection and there is no chance in hell any legal action to force someone to remove that would be successful.

Before long, every gallery, every avatar, every sig, piece of fanart and kitbash would have to be taken down just in case.

And as far as courtesy, that holds up when a fan is posting something dubious, scans of comics currently not for sale anywhere, images of prototypes HasTak weren't ready to publically release yet and similar, maybe even a web address they wanted to use.

But when they're posting pictures of something from their personal collection, something that was openly available and bought legitimately, it is discourteous of the company to overstep their mark and restrict, or even try to limit what a they can and cannot photograph and display publically.

What happens to any particular figure, be it photographing, displaying, smashing, bashing or repainting is out of their hands once it is sold.

Well, this all happened during a time when Takara was getting heavy handed on the fandom in general... many believing unnecessarily so, thus creating aforementioned tensions between Takara and Transfandom.

Compared to what other fans like Ichikawa Hirofumi had to endure from Takara, being asked to take down a couple of pics wasn't a huge deal.

Anyway... this was all six years ago. I've long since lost the pics that I had.

Also, aside from the legality, there is also a matter of courtesy -- if an owner of a copyright trademark asks you to remove an image, it's just basic manners to comply. After all, it is their intellectual property, not yours.

And that is a completely different point. It's one thing to say that "I took down the pics, because they asked me to and I don't want to get on their bad side" and another to say "I was made to take down the pics, because Takara was pressing a lawsuit against me." Completely different statements. One is believable. One is not. Reminder: Pics on a website.

I never said Takara was pressing a lawsuit against me -- merely that I was told to take the pics (and my toy review) down.

But we digress...

I guess my question is - this is a TF site right?

how would a clear PVC of a generic anime (human) kid be a HOLY Grail or a SPECIAL EXCLUSIVE?

It seems about on par with having a squiggy elephant being the exclusive free prize to spiderman fans - just cause in one issue he shot webbing at a couple of animals....

:wtf
